Sunday, February 12, 2006:

7:30AM - Javier's RV Park.
It is a foggy Sunday morning, not cold, 61°F. The Sun is peeking thru, and soon should burn away the mist.

I have a need to find the hoe that Claudio was using yesterday to clear the land that someday will be Javier's RV Park. I want to clear some weeds.

8:30AM - Lay of the land.
The hoe was found, but no way out thru Javier's fence was found. Locked up tight. Mr. Mavica and I decided to look around the yard and take pics so that you may get the lay of the land.

Javier's home is on a very large lot. There are two buildings. The smaller is the home. The larger is a warehouse, shop, garage. Repairs are made in the shop. Outboard motors for the pangas rebuilt. In the pic below you are looking at the shop. Just a bit of the home may be seen beyond the shop.

9:30AM - A word from Mr. Datastorm.
We received email about our satellite communications. There is a storm in the area of Gemantown, Maryland where DirecWay's Network Operations Center is located. We checked the Weather Channel, and sure enough there had been a blizzard there.

Mr. Datastorm has been having a great signal from the satellite this morning, so the weather must be clearing a bit.

11AM - Las Trampas.
Javier and I were talking about his fishing business, and he mentioned the word "trampas" a few times. I asked him what are "trampas?" Javier motioned me into his pickup truck and we drove off. We came to the harbor where four of his five fishing boats are moored. One boat is out to sea. Javier pointed to Las Trampas. They are fish traps made from steel wire.

Fish swim into these traps, attracted by the food/bait which in the center of the trap. Once thru the funnel like entrance, it is almost impossible to swim out again. Las Trampas remain in the water for about an hour and then are hauled out and the fish removed.

12 Noon - Crabs.
Javier wanted to buy some coconuts which are sold at a place that also buys and sells crabs. When we arrived, three men were busy taking the crabs from a cooler which is kept cold with ice. The legs of the crabs would be folded in and secured with rubber bands. They showed me how to tell boy crabs from girl crabs by the dark patch on the bottom of the shells. Wow! What a thing is the life of a crab!

1PM - Dragging the weeds.
Javier had an idea for removing the weeds from the lot where his RV Park is to be located. He attached a very large piece of wood to the back of his truck. The idea is to drag the wood around the field, removing the weeds.

The plan to remove the weeds did not work out well.

6:30PM - Hugo comes to call.
Just as I was finishing eating supper (fried chicken, beef Rice-a-Roni, baked beans, salad), Hugo knocked on MsTioga's door. Hugo is fun to have as a visitor. He smiles a lot.

We tried speaking in English to each other, but Hugo's English has not progressed far, so we spoke in Spanish. We looked at maps of Baja California, and Hugo told me about the towns that he has visited. Hugo has never been north of Loreto, and this means no visits yet to the United States.

I have a feeling that Hugo would like to go to school in the United States. Learn English there. He is a smart person, and will do well.
