Untouched old-growth

8AM - Untouched old-growth
How many "untouched old-growth coastal redwoods" remain standing?  We do not know the answer to this question.  However, here in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park where we are now camped, there remain 17,000 acres of these gorgeous trees.

The tallest trees growing on Earth are here in this forest.  Some of them are over 1800 years old and reach 379 feet into the sky!

Only a few feet away from MsTioga is a huge coastal redwood that may be over 1000 years old.

10AM - Verizon device
You may know that a couple of months ago we bought from Verizon, a Pantech UML290 device.  This Pantech is manufactured in Korea and is 4G network certified.  We are very surprised to find that the Verizon network is available even way out in the forest.

We note that service when we are far from a town is somewhat spotty.  Connections way out here often drop out.  However, the device goes into re-connect mode automatically and re-connection often is established in seconds.

11AM - Camped on the river!
We had just left the campground and MsTioga was driving north on Avenue of the Redwoods. It crossed my mind that it is a shame that there is no access down to the river. Just at that moment, we drove by an access road! MsTioga backed up into this road, and I walked down to take a look-see.

We are now [here].
