Five hours assembly required

I've been waiting about a week for my new desk and office chair to arrive. Wow! Was I surprised when the two delivery men showed up at Guava Gardens with two flat boxes with my desk and chair inside! Unassembled!!

"Do you assemble these things?", I asked hopefully. "Not us. We're just delivery people. We don't even work for the company that you bought this stuff from."

After talking with the Office Max customer service people from where I purchased this desk and chair, it was confirmed that "they" expected "me" to do the required assembly. "But I don't do assembly!", I protested weakly.

Anyway, my new desk and office chair were not accepted, and went back from whence they came.

This afternoon I went over to "Lamps Plus", a furniture store near Guava Gardens. I bought a white colored desk with a glass top uniquely named, "Typhoon Desk". Also a black colored desk lamp with LED lights. Black lamp, white desk. I am going to have an extremely eclectic furniture collection.

Wait until you see my black and white adjustable kitchen chair. The seat and back of this chair sort of look like a fancy soccer ball.  I also picked up a bedside two-drawer cabinet, cherry color.

Note:
I lost my camera when MsTioga died on Interstate 5 on March 15th. So, I took this pic of my new soccer ball chair with my iPhone!

I'm quite delighted with myself for figuring out how to get a pic on my iPhone to end up in my blog!

  1. Good idea to send it back, George. I bought a desk and chair from Office Max a few years ago. It took two of us many hours to assemble them. No way do you need to be doing that so soon after surgery. I look forward to pictures of what you bought. I guess you will have to wait for those things to be delivered. Hopefully you don't have to wait too long. Are you still debating the size of your TV?

  3. I can't believe they do not have personnel to assemble for their customers.

  6. "I don't do assembly!". That's hilarious. Can I use that one? I've only ever done assembly when we were forced to purchase items from IKEA in Europe, but then that's what I was counting on.

  7. I don't mind putting things together if the cost is low enough, but it really is a pain! I'm glad you didn't accept the delivery. Have you checked in some of your local second hand shops for furniture? That's what I'm going to do when I have another "place." Salvation Army, consignment shops, etc. :)

  9. I love the soccer chair! It sounds like you're getting it altogether. A BIG TV would be awesome for your movies. Thanks for posting.

  10. Assembly can be very frustrating when parts do not fit together, parts are missing, you get 20 bolts but only 19 nuts and when you have parts left over.

Have fun George and thanks for keeping us entertained.

  11. Every time you make mention of Ms Tioga's loss, I feel sadness for you. She bought such great pleasure to you. It's strange, but I also feel sadness for Ms Tioga sitting in some junk yard without you. I guess that comes from reading about you and her in your blog for years and understanding how things come to feel like family. I hope you were able to recover your tools.

  12. Aren't iPhones amazing? Good for you that you were able to post the picture of your "cool" chair! Sorry to hear that your camera was lost. I have two Sony cameras but I am using them less and less. That option of emailing pictures directly from the phone is irresistible. Hope to see more pictures of your apartment and your new purchases soon. Thanks for sharing your life, George.

  13. George, I ordered a full desk from Office Depot and it have to be sent back twice for broken parts. It took me several long days to get it assembled. I think you made the right choice.

  14. George, I think you made the right choice in sending everything back. What a shame though. I'm glad to see you have gotten a kewl, new chair. It looks like a lot of fun. Love your attitude, and how you are coming back from a horrible year. I am so very proud of you and look forward to reading your blog again. Great to have you back !!!!!
