Halloween Party

This evening at the Guava Gardens Apartments, we had a Halloween Party! There was good food, loud music and nice dancing.

It is really amazing to see the life that the seniors at Guava Apartments showed at this party. Everybody was dancing. Even Dora who is coming up on her 104th birthday was dancing. She had to use her walker to dance. But that was OK. Just before Dora went back up to her apartment she told me, "I really had a good time!"

Fairway woods

Practicing golf is really a very good thing for me. It gives me something very challenging to do. Gives me a lot of exercise. And it is sooooo much fun to go out on the golf course twice a week to test myself against my fellow golf buddies!

Just today I was practicing with my 3 wood. This 3 wood club is hard to hit correctly. Most times, golfers at my level of the game top the ball and the ball never gets up into the air. It just goes skittering on the grass!

This morning I read a suggestion on a YouTube video to swing a 3 wood with the same effort as a 9 iron. In fact, this suggestion included alternating the 3 wood with the 9 iron in order to "get the feel" of how the 9 iron swings and take that feel into practicing with the 3 wood. Click [here].

In my apartment, I hang my bed blanket over the refrigerator and hit my soft rubber wiffle balls into that blanket. In this way I am able to see if my practice 3 wood shots are getting up into the air as I want them to do.

I'm so healthy!

I am guessing that my recent climactic experiences where I lost my motorhome in a terrible accident, had open heart surgery and had a heart pacemaker installed in my chest convinced me that I was at death's door! After I joined Kaiser Health in April, I learned that I had big vitamin deficiencies and had osteoporosis! Wow!! I began taking, in addition to my heart medication, a ton of prescribed vitamins and minerals.

A couple of days ago I went for an appointment with Doctor Lee. My primary care doctor at Kaiser. Dr. Lee is a middle age guy who, when I first met him, seemed to be stoic and uncommunicative. Definitely NOT my favorite kind of doctor. But lately we have gotten to know each other and now Dr. Lee is warm, talkative and is really nice to visit!

Doctor Lee told me that my vitamin deficiencies are gone. Isn't that something? I got to admit that I feel great now. Much better than several months ago. I guess that I am not at death's door anymore!

Boy Scout Caramel Corn
When I went grocery shopping this morning, a couple of Boy Scouts were at the Von's market soliciting for donations.

"How much for the caramel corn?",  I asked.
"$10", the Boy Scout told me.

At first I was taken back by the $10. My first job in 1953 when I was 15 years old was sweeping up a large print shop. For 8 hours of cleaning at this print shop, I got $6.

Then I got to thinking that money is not worth what it used to be when I was a boy. I just looked it up on the internet. $1 in 1953 is $8.72 today.

I gave the Boy Scout $10 and received a bag of Carmel Corn as a gift.

Golf 2

I wanted you to know that I am continuing to do very well in my new life as an apartment dweller. And golf has a lot to do with that.

My golf game has come to the point where I am now practicing chipping and pitching. I am able to practice my chip shots inside my apartment using soft rubber balls. I am also able to practice fairway shots with these balls while inside the apartment. My fairway shots go to the refrigerator door and bounce back all the way to the opposite apartment wall.  I cannot do a complete follow thru when I practice a fairway shots because the ceiling of my apartment is too low.

Up until now, I have been the weakest player in the group of guys that I golf with. But I have a feeling that very soon, my golf game may get a large improvement because of my practice.
