Bad hip pain

Another thing has come up with me. It's pain in my right hip. I wrote to you several days ago about that pain coming in the Wal*Mart parking lot. When this happenend, if felt as though my leg is failing to keep me upright.

I am not sure myself, what actually is happening when this hip problem strikes me. Because it happens sooooo fast! All of a sudden I am going down. Is it because I am shrinking away from the pain that I begin to go down? Or is my hip joint just letting go [this seems impossible].

12 noon - Ordered a hiking stick!
It was bound to happen, sooner or later. I just bought a hiking stick. Looks like my hiking stick should arrive at the Wal*Mart grocery location in La Mesa on Friday.

1:30pm - Chin's  and Lowes
I'm heading out for lunch and some shopping.

Chin's is a first class Chinese restaurant off the main road thru the Town of La Mesa. Chin's has taken up $5 lunch and $8 supper specials. I've been going to Chin's weekly for about a month. That was when I first found about Chin's specials.

After Chin's, I'm taking a run up to the Town of Santee. There's a rumor out that Lowe's has Neanthe Bella Palms in stock. I have two of these palms growing on the balcony, and both are doing exceptionally well! I want two more. [link]

2:30pm - Seated at Chin's
I asked the waitress what the $5 special is for today. ["Hunan Fish"] I looked for Hunan Fish in the menu. And there it was, priced at $12.95!

I was in the restaurant business from 1976 to 1989. Three locations. All successful. And I learned one major idea from that experience.

PROMOTION!

I promoted in the local newspaper. On a popular FM music station. I promoted with my "Roller Skating Car Hops!"

Discounting is definitely in the category of promotion. But I have the feeling, here at Chin's, the owner may be a little desperate.

I never even heard of Chin's before they put up the roadside discount signs.

At Chin's for only $5!

4:30pm - In-N-Out for a shake
Right now I am at In-N-Out sipping on a strawberry shake. Before driving here, I was at the Lowe's in the same shopping center. Lowe's was out of stock of the palms that I told you about before. I'm going to try and find these palms on the internet.

Does it seem strange to go to In-N-Out for only a shake? They sell good shakes! Reasonably priced too. That's why I am here. 😎

5:30pm - Pool & spa area closed
On walking down to the spa for a nice hot bath, I was met with a gate sign:

"POOL AND SPA AREA CLOSED FOR SERVICING"

Perhaps we tenants should be clued in to the "WHY" of the closure? But we are not clued in. I guess we just gotta be patient.

  1. one word - cane

The rest of the story. I have a bum knee. The cane keeps me off the floor/ground when the knee decides to be stupid and not work like its suppose too. My pride is not worth broken bones, skinned up body parts and hospital stays. Just saying.

    1. Hi Judy,
      Interesting comment!

I hang out often with ladies here at my apartment who meet down at the swimming pool. Recently, all of them have been chiding me because I have not bought a cane.

You would fit well in our swimming pool group. 😀

I am going out today to shop for a cane!

  2. George, have you had an x/ray or cat scan of that hip? My husband endured a lot of grief some years ago, he had a tear that was fixed by a surgeon. Almost immediate relief. What does your doctor say specifically about the hip problem?

    1. Hi RNR,
Yes! Right after my appointment with my primary care doctor at Kaiser, he sent to the lab for hip X-rays.

Nothing unexpected showed up in those X-rays.

My doctor says that the pain comes from rheumatism or arthritis. [I do not have square in my mind what the relationship is between these two.]

  3. I agree with Judy - and while you're out, why not buy a colorful plastic wide mouth beverage bottle with a drinkable lid and a nice thermal travel mug ? Use them at home and at pool and carry them to restaurants - your waitress will gladly serve your beverages in them ! No need to continue to spill drinks and no need to be ashamed or stubborn - people of ALL ages carry them everywhere. Good Luck

    1. Moonfly13 - that's a good idea for the spilled drink. I will have to keep that in mind for when I get the shakes, as it appears I may have inherited some sort of palsy from my maternal grandmother's family.

  5. George, I recently had exactly the same problem with sudden pain in the hip area which almost took me to the ground. I saw my doctor who asked if the pain was on the outside of my led or from the crotch area. He said hip pain normally comes from the crotch area and Bursitis from the outside of the top of the leg. I have bursitis but it sure felt like a worn out hip joint! The treatment is over the counter anti-inflammatory (twice the dosage on the box), ice and rest. I was told to resist the urge to "walk it off" and tut my legs up for a few days. It is working!

    1. Hi Croft,
Thank you sooooo much for sharing your medical info with me. One other reader wrote a comment about the possibility of my hip pain being bursitis.

I am going to run this passed my Kaiser doc.

  6. The doctor said to take the anti-inflammatory for ten days. I bought Aleve and started taking 440 MG twice a day but it immediately gave me stomach problems so I quit. I had some ibuprofen left over from some dental work and am taking that now with no side effects. Good luck my friend!

  7. Hi George, about the cane. Don't call it a cane, call it a "hiking Stick!" It's more you!

I took your advice and went back and edited "cane" to read "hiking stick."

  9. George, I have hip bursitis diagnosed by a doc. Look in Google for hip bursitis. You should find triconteric (sp) bursitis. I am getting better doing as he said: lying on my back I pull up my right leg as far as possible and then pull it over to the left as far as you can and hold for 5-10 secs, then relax and do again. I do about 8 of these 3 times a day has helped so much!
