Slide Out

Slide Out Drawer Day
8am - Today we are planning to install two 4-foot long full extension slide out drawers into Miss Twayler's pass thru storage space. All of the material to be used is here.

Material for slide out drawer

The new slide out drawers are a significantly important addition for Miss Twayler! Anything that does NOT have a good location inside Twayler, or is only rarely used, may be kept in one of these full extension slide out drawers.

10am - Dish Network
I have noticed some extremely strange things concerning the current crop of human kind, of a younger age [18 to 35]:
  • Nearly all are covered with tattoos
  • All speak extremely fast [No way do I understand]
  • They end their conversations stating "No Problem!"
Just a few moments ago I completed a phone conversation with a dude from Dish Network. He informed me that he was instructed to read to me, over the phone, the contents of the boiler plate of the Dish Network contract.

Before reading, he warned [advised ?] that he would be reading for about five minutes. Wow! He read from a script. While he read, I was doing things, not paying attention.  Hmmmmm?

When he finished, he asked, "Do you agree?" "Yes", I replied.

11:39am - NO MORE!
I have decided not to use the phone to call any businesses from this day forward. I will only use US Mail. I will only pay bills, by US Mail.

I have had it! NO MORE! I will not be subjected to the ridiculous business practice of having human beings communicate with machines. If a company does not have enough regard for me, to have a real person answer my phone calls, to hell with them!
  • I will no longer use any credit card
  • Cash or equivalent only
  • If a company wishes to do business with me, they shall provide their service or product first, then send me a bill by US Mail.
=====================================================
PS: It is now 8pm, and I am re-reading my 11:39am Blog post above. I'm changing the "If a company wishes to do business with me" above.
I really meant to write:
"If a company wishes to do business with me, they will charge my checking account for the price of the purchase.
====================================================

3pm - My Plan!
  1. Notify all companies with which I do business, that vcI only have a US Post Office address.
  2. Cease responding to email communication with businesses.
My beginning:
I have a disputed charge on a credit card. I'm mailing a handwritten notice to the credit card company about the facts of my dispute. I'll include my phone number, if the wish to talk to me.

Guess what?
I really like the idea of doing business the old fashioned way.

7pm - George: What's your rant all about?
Here is the thing, Dear Reader. I do not like the way things are going, and today I had my fill of it and began my own personal protest movement.

Why and I am protesting? Because companies treat me rudely, and don't give a damn. So, here I am, one 79 year old pissed off guy, doing what I can do.

You know what I did this afternoon? I went to Home Depot to buy some screws and brackets for the slide drawers that I Blogged to you about earlier. But, before I drove off to shop, I put my credit cards in my desk drawer, and instead took my checkbook. You know something, I had not taken that checkbook with me to go shopping in many years.

That checkbook is part of the plan! I am furthering myself from credit cards and banking companies. And in doing that, I will not have to phone those companies and suffer the indignity of talking to and dealing with machines! Answering machines. Self checkout machines. Phooey!

No more! Never again!

  1. Maybe Dish will e-mail you the form you previously agreed to so you can read it at your leisure. I can't remember what they said to me, George. At least with a paper copy I can read/reread until it finally sinks in. So frustrating!

    1. Hi Judy,

Dish does send the agreement email. BUT, first they subject their customers to an on-the-phone reading. They inform, we will not provide service without reading the document to you. You must then agree to the document's terms.

    1. Hi Suz,

Well first, I will get Amazon to do business with me on MY terms!

Then, I will proceed from there.

    2. You will tell Amazon that first they will deliver your order to you and then, in time, you will mail them a check.
I think I know how that will turn out. Not in your favor.

  3. The US Mail has become quite unreliable where I live in the Los Angeles area. We don't receive our checks or bank account statements and even registered mail never arrives. It's a big big problem and I guess the internet is the future of communications.

    1. Hi Rick,

I love the internet. BUT, I do NOT like the way businesses disrespect customers by subjecting them to communicating with machines!

      NO MORE!.....for me!!

  5. Sorry George, but I have very serious doubts Amazon will send you anything and then wait for your check to arrive!

    1. Hi Bill,

When I place an order with Amazon, they will take my check.

    2. And ship the order after your check clears.

    3. Ed, Carol and Gopher,

Nowadays, checks clear immediately/electronically. Bet that you already knew that 😀.

  7. I think this will be interesting. I am interested to see how long you can refuse the instant gratification of Amazon and other online retailers. Many online retailers don't even accept "mail order" any more.

    1. Hi Jim,

Amazon accepts money from my bank using the routing and account numbers.

With Amazon, and all other companies that I do business with [ie; banks], I no longer reply to their email. And, I will send a US Mail letter advising them that I may be contacted via my postal address or telephone.

  8. The businesses might decide they don't want to do business with you...how about that? Yes mail delivery very unreliable...my neighbor brought my mail to me the other day instead of mailman. My mail was delivered to my neighbor...how about that?

Before you start paying your bills with checks, google "Check washing"

Are you believing that I am financially responsible for a forged check cashed against my bank account?

    2. My daughter had a couple of checks "washed" and it was at best inconvenient having to deal with the bank (Probably on the phone).
