Politics

Blogging My Politics

1am - Pussyfooting
For many years [20+], I strongly believed that I should NOT argue politically with my friends. Also, I only rarely wrote politically here on my Blog.

Bill Moyers, an American journalist and political commentator [A democrat] wrote in his blog [in part]:

"Citizens of a free society do not preserve their freedom by pussyfooting around their fellow citizens’ opinions, even their most cherished beliefs."

I have come full circle from not talking about political stuff at all to agreeing with Bill Moyers completely!

Political independent
I define myself as a politically independent person. For example: I support the American Civil Liberties Union [ACLU] with donations because of ACLU's defense of persons oppressed by our government, the legal system and the prison system et al. Also, I agree with some of ACLU's politics such as their criticism of both Obama and Trump.

However, I am often against the ACLU. This happened when the ACLU came out against the curtailment of free speech at university protests. The ACLU supported freedom of speech of a group of protesters while the goal of that same group of protesters was to stop persons from speaking.

Example:
ACLU support of anti-Israel persons who disrupt speakers invited by universities to address the student body.

Support of and then against Obama
On the day after Obama announced for the presidency, right here on my Blog I endorsed him. Click [here] to view that Blog post.

However, my position changed during Obama's first world trip, when he presented a speech in Cairo which he titled: "A New Beginning" on 04 June 2009.

At Cairo, Obama's call for peace between Israel and Palestinians showed me that he speaks authoritatively about subjects of which he has no personal knowledge. The same thing applies with Obama being against Israel in occupying what the world calls "settlements" which are in fact cities within the borders of Israel. Obama has no personal knowledge about this either. He simply believes what he is told instead of finding out the truth himself.

Palestinians describe the place where they live inside Israel as a city or town. But those same Palestinians describe the place where some Israelis live as settlements [Illegally occupied settlements].

This re-definition stuff is a big part of the Palestinian propaganda scheme. And the World has believed that propaganda because these lies repeated over and over become changed into truth.

Coming out
These are some of my reasons for coming out here in my Blog with my political stance. I am neither a conservative or liberal. I am not a Democrat or
Republican.

I am a free-thinker who will not allow himself to adopt a position of being politically dug-in and entrenched so that my views do not change regardless what happens.

10am - Little Honda's storage cabinets
I am planning to replace the cabinets in Little Honda's rear storage area. Those plastic cabinets purchased at WalMart are not sized for best use of the space.

I will design and build these cabinets myself. They will be made of plywood and use full-extension slide drawers.

1:30pm - 24 Hour Fitness
I have felt sooooo good lately, that I now go to workout at 24 Hour Fitness every other day!

Which comes first:
  • Does feeling good lead to going to 24 Hour Fitness every other day?
  • Does going to 24 Hour fitness lead to feeling good which then leads to going every other day?
I don't which it is? But I will write this:
  • My lower back has stopped hurting
  • I no longer struggle opening a sealed bottle of jam
  • I'm sooooo relaxed
My 24 Hour Fitness routine consists of:
  • 30 minutes treadmill to reach a heart rate of 105 beats/minute
  • 30 minutes training on machines to exercise every muscle group
  • 20 minutes [more or less] shower and soak in spa

  1. George, I agree with your coming out on your political beliefs. I also agree with your view on ACLU. Some really complex cases. I managed the Chicago office for a year and established some new standards for taking cases. Reviewing cases was one of the toughest things I have done as some were clear and many had edges. I do not agree with your view on Israel. I support Israel's right to exist and our support but I think they have made some bone head mistakes and Netanyahew insulting Obama over and over is not smart. Obama understands but disagrees. I don't think Trump understands. It is just politics to him. You will have to admit your views may be a bit biased. I grew up with a Jewish family and have great Jewish friends who do not support your view so the jury is still out but I respect your view as yours and am pleased you shared although from your previous writing it was no surprise.. As we embark on the Trump Era we all need to be engaged. As my friend Walter Mondale told me the night of the election in 1984 "the people have spoken, the bastards". In this case I know it was not a majority, in fact 3 million short, but our system counts differently. I hope Trump is humbled by the need to win broader support but humility will be a side I have not yet seen. Safe travels George.

    1. I am going to address only one item in your comment:

"I support Israel's right to exist and our support but I think they have made some bone head mistakes and Netanyahew insulting Obama over and over is not smart."

      * Do you support your right to exist?
      * How has Netanyahu insulted Obama?
      * Obama does not understand hardly anything about the Middle East situation. That is why he supports the Iran nuclear agreement fiasco.
      * Trump is a bottom line businessman who has been tested and found success over many years.
      * Obama has not had a real job in all his life.
      * My views on Israel, Palestinians and the Middle East are founded on following what has gone on there ever since the 1948 UN Palestine/Israel partition vote.

  2. Sometimes it is better to just refrain from commenting. I did a screenshot of a quote from Thomas Paine yesterday. He said, "to argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead."

When a person's mind is made up that his opinion is not going to change, there is no point in discussing the issue. And, wow, do I disagree with you!! What you call "truth" is your own biased "truth".
Maybe I have seen too many documentaries of Palestinians whose land was confiscated. I will never forget one particular one where a woman's grandfather built the house, and planted the oranges. The Israelis came in. Confiscated her property. She could not even visit, How many descendants of Palestinians are growing up ---generations of them!!!---in refugee camps. And building up resentment. They throw stones. It's no wonder. President Obama is one fine man. Not a biased one. A sincere one who is capable of seeing the side you refuse to see.

Goodbye, George, I have stuck with you, followed you, loved you, cried with you and for you,for more than a decade. No more. You have struck the wrong nerve. I will find other things to do with my time. I wish you the best in your world.

    1. Hi Rose,

I understand completely how you feel. You, and much of the world [especially the Muslim world], have been so influenced by Palestinian propaganda, that how could you actually comprehend the Middle East?

Rose, what do you really know about what you write? Only what you read? And who writes the things that you read?

Do you do research by going over to the Middle East and learning for your own self of which you write?

      I have done exactly that!
      * In 1998 I spent three months in Israel. Two of those months in Jerusalem.
      * In 2008 I spent two months in Israel. One of those months in Jerusalem seeing for myself how well Palestinians and Israelis co-exist. That's why I know about Palestinian propaganda and outright lies.
      * In 2010, I spent another two months in Israel. First month in Jerusalem. And the 2nd month spent a great deal of time with my family members who live in the north of Israel on the Lebanon border. My family there had a bomb shelter to protect themselves from Lebanese attack.

Good bye, Rose. I will miss you.

Unfortunately too many people fail to investigate the author's background. They too easily accept what they read without question. Many people making money selling false opinions.

    3. You spent less than a year in Israel yet you claim to know first hand. Israel and Palestinians live in close proximity day in and day out...only they know conditions and why they choose the way they do. We outsiders can form opinions but can't declare we know all because we don't.

    2. Hi Barney,

I have been quiet politically here on MY BLOG since 2003.

But now that the USA is so damned politicized, I got to stand up for what I know is correct.

Hell! We should all stand up for what we know is correct! And whatever correct means, it is NOT Obama.

Remember all of Obama's campaign promises?

      * Close the Guantanamo Bay Detention Center
      * Restrict warrantless wiretaps
      * Secure the borders
      * Reform mandatory minimum sentences
      * Sign a "universal" health care bill
      * Promise for open government [Everything on C-Span!]

  10. We should be able to disagree without being disagreeable. The ability to discuss controversial subjects from all sides while sharing differing views is important to our survival as a country. Politics have become a blood sport which is a shame. Our new President has not helped that. George merely expressed a view. He did not attack anyone. He did not change who he is. I fail to see why that would bring forth anger toward him. I do understand why it brought out counter points and mine was one but it was not a rejection of George and he certainly didn't preclude countering opinions although he did share that his view is deeply felt.

    1. I understand the WHY of your question about anger toward me.

It's because many [most?] of the Democrats who love Obama completely, are so politicized that they are not able to think and reason for themselves anymore.

They are angry with me because I express my belief that Obama is a highly intelligent victim of deception. And a grand deceiver in his own right.

Trump is such an outlandish personality, that liberal minds only see that in him. Nothing else.

The liberal minds do not see a successful businessman and what Trump's experience may bring to the White House. They only see a loud mouth who "trumped" Clinton in the election.

Only time will tell what the truth really will end up being.

And yes, I think your opinion on the Palestinians may be biased. I think it requires a bit of history and fact. Also, why can't we all just get along? There seems to be hatred on both sides. Netanyahu certainly doesn't present a peace agreement in anyway. He is ex-military and is out to eliminate the Palestinians.

    1. Hi LBM,

Let me explain to you why the Palestinians don't have any claim to East Jerusalem.

Israel took the territory of East Jerusalem from Jordan in the 1967 war. Jordan has since relinquished its claim to the West Bank.

So, why do Palestinians now claim the area in the West Bank now belongs to them??

I sure would like an answer to that question!

  12. I am also an independent person...I decide myself why I believe the way I do based on knowledge I've gained but if I don't know, I try to learn but it's hard learning from a third party who may be bias. Even being there can be bias because we all tend to be bias and/or self interest takes over no matter who it is. Sometimes it takes a third person listening and presenting evidence to decide an issue. We are a complicated species that is for sure.

  13. Oh Sheila I hope you are right embracing Trump. I do not believe you are but for the sake of the country I would love to be wrong. To reject the last three Presidents with very differenct styles and programs is rather foolish. None were perfect and mistakes were made but good also was done so why not look at that. We had great prosperity under Clinton. Bush lead well after 9-11. Obama took us out of the worst depression since the Great Depression. A lot more but those are brief highlights.

    2. Hi Sheila,

I sure have had enough of people knocking Trump in front of me. And those people being absolutely sure that I agree with them. When I don't!!

I am sick and tired of being lied to. One thing that really makes me pissed off, is being told that there was not enough inflation for me to receive a Cost Of Living Adjustment [COLA] for my Social Security.

And then learning that the Congress and many government people got COLAs because the computation for their COLA was different than the computation for Social Security COLA!!! 😡

    3. We don't know for sure what the future is going to look like with Trump but it was clear to many that the corruption of the past leadership had to be removed. COLA and their deep belief in entitlement are good examples of a gov't past their due date. There is hope in a new beginning with Trump. That said, no one knows how the new presidency will work out but thank God people had the courage to try new and different leadership.

But he was my only hope, my only choice. I truly believe he loves this country and that is enough for me. I will pray that he heals this country and secures it.
