Bodega Bay

Day 13

Heading North

7:30am - Today we are leaving the Porto Bodega RV Park in the Town of Bodega Bay. On the way, Scampy's propane tank should be topped off. Also, we would like to visit the Vons grocery in City of Guerneville.

Our next Camp is at Gerstle Cove in Salt Point State Park.

Scampy's battery
Yesterday, our Renogy solar panel was used to charge Scampy's battery. The Renogy charged from 9am to 4pm.

Scampy's battery started at 1.225 specific gravity [Fair] and ended at 1.250 specific gravity [Good].

Everybody on the Scampy RV Team is absolutely delighted with Renogy's performance!

2pm - Gerstle Cove Campground
We were very surprised to learn that most of sites at Gerstle Cove are not occupied. We are guessing that as the holiday weekend draws near that the occupancy will zoom.

A beach scene that caught iPhone's eye

6pm - Internet
Our Cricket Communications service is not available at Salt Point. However, there is a WiFi access from the ranger station at the Woodside campground across Hwy #1.  And that WiFi has no password!

It was a bit breezy and chilly earlier this afternoon. Now, that breeze has gone and the temperature is very comfortable. The forest is very beautiful.

I just finished eating supper.

A patty melt and baked beans. Yummm!

Rhododendron Forest
The Rhododendron Reserve is very close to where we are camping. For sure tomorrow morning, Little iPhone and George will go there and explore!

  3. Hi George, Now that you've been camping for a while with Scampy, how do you feel about having a trailer vs a motorhome (forgetting the ddifference in length)? I sometimes think the convenience of uncoupoling and having a car would be very convenient. Sometimes I jujst hate to pack up the Winnie just to run an errand!

    1. Hi Bill,

That is a very good question!

The major difference is that MsTioga was able to go practically everywhere. Dirt roads. Fairly steep grades. MsTioga had a ton of clearance.

Scampy and Honda should NOT be taken in places like that. Pavement only for them! Hardly any clearance. And Honda's front wheel drive just does not hack it on dirt roads.

On the other hand, the way I am RVing now, Honda and Scampy do fine. They get 3x the mileage. 22 MPG vs MsTioga's 7.5 MPG.

Scampy and Honda are good for an old guy like me.

  4. Hi George!
I really enjoy reading your Blogs! Hey, does your 13' Scamp have a toilet & shower? My Scamp salesperson (Jim), told me they're no longer putting front windows in the new 13' Scamp because of leaking issues. If you have a shower & toilet, does not having a window make it a little more claustrophobic? He did say that instead they use a ceiling fan.
Boy, It sure is tough waiting until my little 13' Scamp will be ready late in December! My wife and I are planning a cross-country trip when we go to pick it up on 28 December. We plan on leaving Oregon and travel on I-84 then head up to I-90 & then I-94 into Minnesota (pick-up 13' Scamp in Backus), head south on I-29 to Kansas City, then take I-35 to Oklahoma City, then take I-40 to Barstow, then I-15 to the 210 (turns into I-210), go west to I-5 and head northbound back to the Salem, Oregon area. I do wonder if I need to constantly check my wheel bearings for such a long trip... (?) Have Fun!

    1. Hi Lor,

My Scamp has front shower and toilet. Not having a window there never even occurred me. It's a bit of a balancing act using the toilet.

I am able to read in you comment how very excited you are waiting for you Scamp!
