Good Bye Scampy

Day 41

New RV

5:30am - Yesterday, with all the hullabaloo about buying a new tow vehicle, we went ahead and sold Little Honda and Scampy. We also stopped the buy of the Ford Transit.

We bought the RV below! It's a fantastic all-in-one RV! No tow vehicle required!

Our New Futuristic RV!

8am - Ha! Me make big joke!

1pm - The Plan
➡︎ Trailer hitch - The 2012 Ford Transit connect needs a trailer hitch. We have an appointment at U-Haul in the City of Salem for that. The Tekonsha brake controller that is now in Honda will be removed and installed in the Ford.

➡︎ Sell Honda In order to sell Honda we have to fix her up nice. Honda needs the rear bumper replaced. Tomorrow we go to Trachsel Auto Body in Salem to arrange for that bumper. Honda needs all of the stuff in the rear [cabinets, etc] removed. Then get Honda detailed.

We have not determined how to go about selling Honda. Direct to a buyer? To a dealer?

3pm - Lance 650 Truck Camper
Highway Trailer Sales here in Salem, Oregon has in their inventory a couple of Lance 650s. We like the way the 650 looks online. So, went over to take a look.

Wow! We were sooooo surprised to find out that our Scampy has much more interior storage than a Lance 650!

Salesman Tim told me, "Truck campers are not known for their storage. A roof box may be used to increase storage!"

Man-O-Man! What a sales pitch!

Now, with that Lance 650 viewing behind us, we are sooooo happy with our Scampy. We were happy before. But now, really, really happy!

Nice looking interior though!

6pm - State Capitol Building
Little iPhone was begging to go capture a pic of the State Capitol Building here in the City of Salem, Oregon. So, of course we went!

Sunday, June 18th - Sunday Market
Rowena and I took the MAX train to Portland last Sunday. That was the day of the Pride Parade.

We walked around the Sunday Marketplace. Looking at all the stalls with things for sale or display.

Little iPhone captured the pics below. iPhone would like to share them with you.

This thing is Tom's [LorbeerTLC] idea. Tom put me up to it!

      In an email Tom wrote:
Hey, as a gag why don’t you write that after careful consideration, you changed your mind and decided to get this instead.

It’s a “Smart Car Camper!” To hell with hitches! :P

Would just like to point out a big truck and insert are BIG. Truck uses mucho fuel compared to Honda. And that means once you are in Jojoba Hills you would have no run around car. I don't think they would let you park the trailer and the truck with insert camper on the same lot. I suggest you keep Honda and Scamp.

  18. In 2009 that Van was imported into the US
It wasn't until 2014 that they started rating it for 2000 pounds to tow
I'll go back to the original statement that I made yesterday
    But also
I would suggest you go to two different ford dealers,,, you're looking for the same answers from each dealership without being dazzled by their brilliance and BS
In the service department asked them why they do not rate the 2012 to tow a trailer. There could be many simple answers
It may or may not be a simple $$$ fix
The North American model may not have a frame
The size of the tires may not be configured for US towing
The rear springs may not be proper configuration
No wire harness for a 4 6 or 7 plug connector ( on US models)
The onboard computer may not be configured for towing
    Radiator is not big enough,
the transmission cooler is not sufficient enough,
It could be a US warranty issue where there is none in euro.
I would believe that all the < underbody >components on a 2009 to 2012 and the 2012 to 2014 would be the same WHAT makes the 2014 different then the 2012 ? that's the question you need to have answered ?
Like your FIT, yes you can put an aftermarket hitch and wiring on any vehicle
But over the length of time what are the issues going to be

    1. Hi Bill,

Yes, I understand how you feel.

I've been Blogging for so many years [May 2003], that comments rarely get to me [But these lately, they came pretty close!].

I believe that it was back in 2003/2004, when Readers climbed on me for using a U.S. Catalytic "Wave 6" portable heater inside MsTioga. Back then these Readers took the position that because this catalytic heater was unvented, I was risking my life using one.

That heater criticism went on for many months!

But, I am still around after all of these years. And still using one of those unvented heaters!

      George

    2. I remember the heater episode. In fact I went out and bought a Wave 6 because of it! I know you'll do right!

  21. If it's any consolation, I was using a Wave heater 10 years before you bought Ms Tioga :-)

    Still use one today.

I have the land already picked out, but don't have enough time to buy/build a cabin. What will I do?!? I have a plan to get a garage shelter and live in the trailer over the winter! I have a little wood stove and propane heater. Can I make it my first winter in the trailer and a tent shelter??!?? Stay tuned my friend!! :) :)
