Salem

Day 75

Key, Door, Battery

8:34am:
This morning The Scampy RV Team is heading out of the City of Beaverton. We are bound for the City of Salem!

Tránsito has a 10:30am appointment at Skyline Ford to be outfitted for a backup coded ignition key. Also, Tránsito has been complaining that his driver side door does not stay open for George during exiting.

Tránsito also has asked for his engine starting battery to be replaced. It's about
time, for goodness sakes! That battery is his original starting battery from 2012!

9:00am:Battery X-Change
We were clued in by a nice acquaintance who lives in Beaverton, about Battery X-change. This is a company that refurbishes batteries [ie; engine starting batteries].

We are intending to go to Battery X-change in Salem after the appointment with Skyline Ford.

10:30am:
Arrive for Skyline Ford Service
The service advisor checks Tránsito in. I inform him that Scampy will have to be dropped. I drive a few blocks away and drop Scampy in a quiet residential street. Then drive Tránsito back to Skyline.

A driver taxis me back to Scampy.

10:45am:
Skyline Ford doesn't have coded key
A voicemail message comes in stating that Tránsito's new coded ignition key was NOT ordered! What the sh*t!

So I phone up Skyline to get the skinny. I explain why I am phoning to the guy a guy in service. He becomes defensive?! I explain that I am not phoning to find somebody to blame. I just want to find out what happened, and how/when it will be corrected?

The guy is giving me static. So, I ask to speak to the service manager. But the guy who picks my call from hold for the service manger is Len, the shop foreman. I ask Len, "Is this kind of thing that you handle?" He tells me that it isn't. "Then are you able to get the service manager on the line with me?"

Len comes back a minute later and tells me that Brandon Adams, Service Manager, is not available. He will phone me after 1:30pm?!? Lunch?

Legal things
I was involved in a legal incident last week. I'm here to Blog about what I relearned about legal stuff after this incident:
➜ Never talk to the police
➜ Police have no legal duty to protect you
➜ Only you yourself are responsible for protecting yourself
➜ If you are in any kind of danger, never call 911
➜ If you believe that you are in a life threatening, dangerous situation, and you cannot escape, arm yourself and destroy whatever or whoever is endangering you. That includes anybody!

PS: I got most of the five points above doing a Google search with these search terms:
[ justice supreme court, never talk to the police ]

Would you please Google these search terms and read them yourself?

GUN CONTROL
To me, Gun Control may be defined as:
"Killing any and all criminals who posses a gun."

Our Second Amendment
The right to keep and bear arms (often referred to as the right to bear arms) is the people's right to possess armaments (arms) for their own defense, as described in the philosophical and political writings of Aristotle, Cicero, John Locke, Machiavelli, the English Whigs and others.

George States:
"United States citizens who believe the popular definition of gun control, where the possession and/or carrying of guns is illegal, perhaps read the history of our country and our Constitution.

Back in our revolutionary days, guns were required. They may be required again one day in the future just to survive!

  1. 5 years for a starting battery. That's pretty good. I replaced my 5 year old battery in my Ford Expedition this year. I wasn't having problems (yet) but it failed a load test.

Years ago Consumer Reports rated Ford Motorcraft batteries as their number 1 pick. I find the prices for Motorcraft batteries at Ford dealers to be very competitive, which is why I bought another one this years. My last 4 vehicles have been Fords and all the batteries lasted at least 5 years.

    1. Hi Nick,

I agree with the 5-years part of your comment.

Just coincidentally, today Tránsito is getting a new Ford Motorcraft battery installed. $130 less 25%!

    1. Mister ed,

I do not know how much the keys cost that you linked, or how much the key cost that I am buying from Ford.

The key cannot be used until its code is programmed into
      Tránsito's computer.

    2. George,

You are correct. Plus you need the old key because the keys are programmed together.

Sorry to hear about the key debacle at the dealership. This kind of POOR customer service happens all the time. Dealers usually charge for the key and WAY too much money in the addition fee to program it. Insist they give you a discount for the inconvenience they caused you!

    3. P.S. Tell them you have documented your ordeal on your blog, which has thousands of daily viewers and that hopefully they resolve this in a satisfactory manner so you can report to your readers that your concern was resolved in a satisfactory manner.

    4. Sorry Nick you're you're a tad bit off,,
It is not necessary to know the key code if ordering from a Ford dealership as a manager can query the Ford system with your VIN to obtain your key code. However ordering from a third part vendor then this key code is necessary. Ordinarily there is a key code tag that is attached to one of the keys, but this can easily get lost. The Jaguar uses an eight-position Tibbe key with three different cuts and inserting the wrong key into a lock (Jaguar into Ford and reverse, might permanently jam up the lock). Everybody from the Ford dealership to an independent locksmith requires proof of ownership; usually the insurance card will be good enough.

    5. Mister ed,

I was talking about programming a new Ford key. Most Ford keys since 1996 have transmitters inside the key head.

Most Ford keys are blanks and have to be cut. Once you have the key cut it has to be programmed. The older Ford PATS and PATS-II keys required ONE working key to be programmed by the owner. New versions require TWO working keys for the owner to program it themselves. Otherwise, it needs to be done using special equipment. I've programmed hundreds of keys.

    1. I Disagree!

This is our Republic. If we want to keep it that way, we must protect it actively!

      In case you wondered:
➜ In a Republic, a written constitution limits the majority and provides safeguards for the individual and minorities."

➜ In a democracy, the majority can directly make laws. The will of the minorities is tenuous at best. There are no safeguards for the individual and minorities.

When you choose to abandon our Republic instead of fighting these liberal creeps, you are liable to lose all that our forefathers fought and many died for!

  8. The key that you're looking for is a specific key its a Tibbe key
The problem that you have is probably Ford dealership that you're dealing with doesn't have the milling machine specifically to cut that key.
In your case I would find on the largest automotive locksmith in the Salem area and give them a call
If he can do it, have him cut one key for the service entrance ( non-coded)and one key for the ignition, (with code)
You'll probably need your registration and drivers license for them to cut a master..
Tibbes go anywhere from $20-$60 apiece it depends on where you buy it from,, you can get them on eBay all day long

  9. There are no absolute freedoms. Not of speech, not to carry a gun.
Either comply with the law or work to change it or move to someplace where you like the law.

Ever carry a gun in Mexico? Why not?

    1. Well, MR,

That may be because you are not historically a knowledgeable person.

Do a Google search with this search term:
justice supreme court, never talk to the police

Then return here and make another comment about leaving the USA based upon what you read.

    2. You sound a little out of control with your criticisms, George. Understood, you are angry. Go back and READ my post, both sentences. I told you what I (me, myself) would do. I did not defend my position, nor did I encourage you to agree with it. I simply threw it out there, just as you threw out your points.
I am staying at an RV park in Port Orford. My neighbor is a cop. We talk daily. He gave me pointers on driving my mobility scooter around town. I adore him ... but that's me. :)
      Be well George.

  12. I'm not going to argue you're one through four items.
But your number five is the reason why some states, but not all have a stand your ground law.
but thanks to the Zimmerman case there was some tweaks being made to that law in the state of Florida.
But I do have some concerns about your gun control statement.
If we eliminate that segment of the society.
What do we do about the other criminal segment of the society ?
