Home base

Day 113

Settled Down in Beaverton

9:29am:
Yesterday, the Scampy Team headed north from Salem, to the City of Beaverton. We consider Beaverton to be our Home Base in these northwest parts. Thru our friend Rowena [Weng], we have become acquainted with three ladies who are very good people!

This is the first time that we have gotten our head above water in the fixing broken stuff category. Finally, we are able to concentrate on just doing our projects!

9:37am:
24 Hour Fitness
After leaving our Nite Camp, we headed over to the nearest 24 Hour Fitness Club. This is our first time doing this 24 Hour location.

.

I'm changing my work-out method from using exercise machines to free weights. I read an article written by a knowledgeable person who noted that free weights require stabilizing in addition to moving the weight. This method builds muscle faster than machines.

12:15pm:
Forget free weights!
About 20-minutes into working out at 24 Hour with free weights, I said to myself:
"This is the pits, George. Get yourself over to the machines!"

And that's what I did.

Machines are much easier to exercise individual body parts [ie; back, shoulder triceps]. Much easier to set-up an exercise. Safer too! Don't need a spotter.

10:46pm:
Rowena's place
Late this afternoon, Rowena and I got together to go over some stuff that we are doing. Afterwards, Rowena prepared Fettuccine Alfredo for our supper.

I never paid pasta sauce much attention. For me pasta sauce comes in a bottle with Paul Newman's smiling face! But Rowena turned out the Alfredo sauce so easily. Of course I paid close attention to how she did it. Now, I am able to prepare Alfredo sauce from scratch too!

    1. Suz,

I was over at her place today. I wrote about that in my 10:46pm Blog post.

  3. I use a mix of both. The machines help to keep us from hurting ourselves. Much more stability. I´m with you.

    1. living.boondockingmexico,

Now that I have used free weights, I do not understand what makes them so popular?!

    1. Ed, Carol and Gopher the dog,

The brakes were just way out if adjustment!

After the mechanic showed me how to use them, I realized that I had those brakes set too much force. That's why they wore out so fast!

  7. Machines don't do anything for balance though. Free weights however do help improve balance and as we all get older that is very important as you know. Please keep a few free weight exercises in your routine.
