At the coast

Day 143

Lincoln City
Regatta Park

11:13am:
The Scampy RV Team just made Day Camp at lovely Regatta Park in Lincoln City, Oregon. We have come here in order to be in a peaceful place for me to change the burn wound dressings on my legs.

The burn dressing on my left hand was easy to change because the burn area could be washed in Scampy's kitchen sink. Not so my legs. I could not manage lifting my foot to the kitchen sink!

However, we have an orange Home Depot 5 gallon bucket. Just perfect for burn wound washing! We plan to crank up Scampy's water heater for that wound washing!

AJ's Auto Service

Day 142

Grey Water Tank Day

8am:
This morning, Little Scampy has an appointment at AJ's Auto Service in Salem. Our replacement grey water tank is to be installed.

You may recall that, sometime back, Scampy's grey water tank got crushed. We don't know how that happened. We saw some things hanging down underneath. And there it was!

We ordered the replacement grey water tank from the manufacturer in Canada.
That tank was received on September 5th. But tank installation has been hanging fire since then for need of a plumbing fitting.

We bought that fitting from Scamp Trailer. The fitting serves to connect the grey tube to the tank. The first fitting got lost in transit. So we had to order another.

Emergency

Day 141

Infection!

1:09am:
Yesterday evening, Reader L. Beman [Lynn],  commented that my swollen sore elbow is a sign of infection. And I did not take her advice to see a doctor!

Well, I was sooooo wrong. And Reader Lynn was sooooo right!

Around 10pm last nite, my left hand ballooned up! I took myself to Salem Hospital Emergency. I am there now in the ER waiting for treatment.

My infected hand!

Bath

Day 140

Motel 6

1:01am:
This is my last evening in Beaverton before heading south. I feel so dirty and grubby! Since the propane fire, I have not been able to bathe. The burns were too raw for that.

In the last few days, my burns have improved a lot! I believe that I am now able to take a bath.

There is a Motel 6 down the street from the Fred Meyer where we made our Supper Camp. I phoned over there:

➜ Me: Do you have rooms available for tonite?
➜ Motel 6: Yes!
➜ Me: Do you have rooms with a bath tub?
➜ Motel 6: Yes! All of our rooms have bath tubs.
➜ Me: How much?
➜ Motel 6: $74.38 including tax.
➜ Me: I'll be right over!

My Blog

Day 139

Why Make My Blog Private?

8:53am:
It came down to which would I do?
➜ Change my writing style? Not let you in on everything?
OR
➜ Only allow registered Readers access.

It is my belief, based on my experience, that it is becoming increasingly unsafe to open my life for the world to peruse. Going private takes all my Blog posts, all the way back to the beginning private.

Note: Taking my Blog private has nothing to do with scammers. Or argumentative commenters. Comments may be dealt with.

Pain info

Day 138

Wound Care

9:41am:
Last nite while preparing for bed, my burns hurt me sooooo bad. I did not understand why?

In the morning, the burn on the back of my right foot and calf, is intense when standing or walking. As I continue to walk, over time, that pain becomes manageable.

In the evening, when I stop walking, that pain becomes intense again. I did get the relationship between pain when walking/not walking until this morning.

Thru research, I've learned that keeping my burns wet promotes healing [Link]. I  am using Manuka Honey for a damp dressing And covering with a stretch bandage.

Pain

Day 137

Silvadene reaction

10:46am:
The Silvadene allergic reaction that I Blogged to you about yesterday, remains having a terrible effect on me today. Because of the pain in my right calf, I am only able to stand for a few seconds. Then flop down into bed for relief.

It is the pressure on the injured tissue that causes my pain. Lying down takes off that pressure, and the pain is relieved.

That pain caused me to take over three hours to change my burn dressing and get myself dressed!

Readers!
I stopped replying to comments for adding to the list. That was taking too darned long.

I continued copying and pasting to the list. The list below is every Reader who requested listing up to: September 22nd.

After I post all Reader names on the list, check the list out. If you do NOT see your Google name, comment me.

Funny

Day 136

Amusing Things

12:02am:
Some things strike my funny bone.

Burgerville offers fish and chips which are good. I phoned up and ordered one to go:
Me: I'd like a Fish & Chips to go.
Order taker: What kind of fries do you want?
Me: What fries do you have?
Order taker: We only have regular fries. We're out of the other kinds. Sorry.
Me: OK! Then I'll take regular fries?!?

Lately, nearly everywhere that I go, people are saying, "Yah."
➜ I'll be right with yah.
➜ Will this table be OK with yah.
➜ Yah like Doctor Smith?

Bandage

Day 135

Wound Dressing

6:05am:
When I woke up this morning, the back of my left thumb and the rear of my right calf were hurting. While sleeping I must have rubbed these places. These two burned areas were raw. They needed dressing.

I have the necessary bandages to do this dressing. And the Silver SulfaDiazine
cream medication too. The application of this medication soothes the irritated burn areas.

It takes a lot of time to do this task myself. But I am getting kinda good at it.

Awake

Day 134

Cannot Sleep

1:51am:
Because of the crazy things happening to me lately, and the burn pain, I have not been able to fall asleep. Even my sleeping pill did not work. My mind is too active.

September 20, 2010 was the day that my Son David killed himself. Seven years since then! Today, September 21, 2017, would have been David's 53rd birthday.

Why did I Blog about David? I do not know? Maybe because David is on my mind.

Healing 2

Day 133

Uncovering Burn

9:22am:
I've found that exposing my burn areas to the air causes faster healing. Raw burn areas do better when kept moist. Right now, I'm keeping raw areas moist with antibiotic ointment.

Readers have recommended Manuka honey for keeping these areas moist and promote healing. I would use it, if I could find it.

This constant pain makes me feel sooooo tired.

Healing

Day 132

A Little Bit Better

10:03am:
When changing my bandages this morning, I found that my right leg and arm had healed enough to not need bandaging! Wow!

However, yesterday evening, on my left leg, a 3" long blister formed at the front of my ankle. This big blister formed 3-1/2 days after I got burned. That got me to wondering how many days after I was burned, do new blisters form?

Electricity

Day 131

Portable Shore Power

9:47am:
For RVers, having a solar electric system is Portable Shore Power. If you have solar on your RV, you understand how important solar is to you.

It's too soon to know how well our new 250 watt Yingli solar panel will perform in inclement weather situations. We only hooked up the Yingli late yesterday afternoon. Our solar electric will remain hooked up from now on.

Today dawned to a cloud filled and rainy sky. The House Battery reading a few minutes ago was 12.75 volts. If that voltage rises above 13.00 volts, we may be home free!

Burned

Day 130

Pajamas

11:26am:
My pajamas also got burned. Actually, the area closest to the heater got caramelized! Both top and bottom. At the waist. No more wearing those crispy pajamas!

All of my life I've worn regular pajamas. The kind that men my age wear which come in sets [matching top and bottom]. However, the younger crowd wear
non-matching.

These younger crowd, non-matching bottoms are well represented in men's clothing. I compared this new style with my old style, and went for the new style.

Wound care

Day 129

Changing bandage

8:40am:
To put on a fresh bandage this morning, I followed the method that the emergency room nurse used:
➜ Put on surgical gloves
➜ Spread antibiotic over antiseptic towelette
➜ Apply the towelette to my burn
➜ Hold towelette in place with gauze
➜ Cover with stretch gauze

Fire

Day 128

Propane Explosion!

3:08pm:
I woke up this morning around 7:15am. The temperature was not real cold.
Maybe 50℉. But I decided to turn on Wave3. Our catalytic heater.

The heater was sitting on the floor. Near Scampy's door. I went down on my hands and knees to light it up.

A blinding light! On flight reflex I lurched away. When I looked back at the Wave3, a small flame was burning from the quick-disconnect valve. I went outside and turned off the propane at the cylinder.

The burn mark on the wall is from the explosion

Solar

Day 127

Always Hooked Up

7:49am:
As of yesterday, the Scampy RV Team is always hooked up to solar power!

We ran a cable from the Renogy solar panels on Tr├ínsito's roof, to Scampy's house battery. The cable is connected to the solar panels by way of a 3-wire electric connector. This connector allows for the cable to be disconnected from the solar setup.

What this means is, that whenever the Sun is shining, the house battery will be receiving a charge.

We are sooooo delighted about this! čśÄ

Criminal Court

Day 126

Plea Bargaining

10:03am:
I am ordered to appear this afternoon, at the Municipal Court in Beaverton. The prosecution in my case, has made an offer for me to plead to a lesser charge. This is known as a plea bargain.

What a plea bargain does, is use fear and intimidation as tools for the state to carry out its the prosecution of an alleged criminal act. I have witnessed with my own eyes and ears, this plea bargain tool used in a criminal court.

Solar

Day 125

Sunny Days

6:31am:
It excites me sooooo much, to wake up, look outside, and find a sunny day out there!

Mr. Renogy, our Team's 100 watt solar panel, gets excited too! Because he knows that with sunny days, he is so very close to having a fully charged House Battery.

Speaking about Mr. Renogy. Did you know that he is going to be mounted up on Tránsito's solar panel rack today? Yesterday we added a 1/2" plywood base to the solar rack. With this plywood base, it's now very easy to secure Mr. Renogy up there.

Grey water

Day 124

Grey Water Tank Project

7:59am:
Our replacement grey water tank was delivered on September 5th. However, this project is hanging fire.

Before the grey water tank may be installed, the fitting for the incoming grey water must be installed. We chose to purchase this fitting from Scamp Trailer, and are awaiting delivery. [Note: UPS delivery is Thursday, 09/14.]

As you may imagine, we still have grey water to deal with. Initially, we improvised with an oil drip pan placed outside under the spout of the busted tank. But that proved a mess.

Audible

Day 123

We Love Audible!

10:33am:
Solar & Huckleberry Finn
Today is sooooo sunny and bright! The Scampy Team has set up Camp in the huge parking area across from 24 Hour Fitness in Beaverton.

Our Renogy solar panels are out capturing electric power for charging the House Battery. And from the looks of our last voltage reading, doing a marvelous job!

Day 122

Delete The Scammers

11:31am:
Yesterday's Blog head-fake worked! I Blogged a message meant for the scammers who tried to take over my comment board. Especially one despicable scammer who may have commented under several names.

With that Blog message, I cleared them out. From now on, if I detect any scammer's comment, by any name, they are now on notice that Crusader George shall delete them out!

Good Readers should understand not to reply to suspected scammers. If you read a comment that you would like to reply to, first click on that commenter's name. If there is no biography posted behind that name, do NOT reply!

Comments

Day 121

False Commenters

8:58am:
Unfortunately, my Blog site has been hit by a number of Readers publishing comments under false identities. In prior years, this false identity thing happened as well. But not in such large numbers as these.

I have Blogged since May 14th, 2003. And now I have arrived at this sad day. I am losing that enjoyment. No comments!

9:41am:
Verizon
In yesterday's 7:58pm Blog post, I described to you what happened concerning the MiFi device that I had obtained from Verizon.

Fitting

Day 120

Outfitting Grey Tank

9:32am:
Our new grey water tank needs to have a fitting for the plastic tube that comes from Scampy's kitchen sink.

I'm going to have to do research to learn where to buy such a fitting.

Day 119

Backup Power
6:45am:
In yesterday's 3:31pm Blog post, we wrote:
"We must go west for our House Battery's sake. Going into night with only 12.01 volts is a no-no!"

However, having only a 12.01 voltage reading in the house battery would not mean that it there were no lites inside Scampy all nite long. We have a backup electric power source.

Our Backup Power comes from "SuperStart" our engine Jump Starting battery device [Link].

Repairs

Day 118

Grey Water Tank

8:06am:
UPS has notified that our replacement grey water tank is to be delivered to our Beaverton mail box today.

We have spoken with the owner of AJ's Auto Service in Salem about installing this tank. He asked that I let him know when the tank arrives so that the service may be scheduled.

8:17am:
Auto service for RV repair
Scampy has not had much success finding an RV service company to do her repairs. It seems that RV service companies are scheduled out 6+ weeks.

Tourists

Day 117

Newport - Tourist Town

8:29am:
It tickles me to pilot Tránsito thru touristy towns. Lincoln City. Newport. Why do these towns attract those who visit them?

There is a sense of excitement that emanates from places like these. Tourists strolling. Looking for that special store. Something to buy? Something to eat?

For sure, the weather at the Pacific Coast attracts many of these folks. The high temp here today will be 75℉. Back in my Home Base of Beaverton, the high today is 102℉. My friend Rowena [Weng] who runs gardening/landscaping business, likely will not be woring on this day!

Syncing

Day 116

New iPhone

9:17am:
During a phone conversation, I often got the complaint:
"You are breaking up. I don't understand what you are saying!"

So, I reported this complaint to Verizon. I was sent a replacement iPhone. After restoring the new iPhone from an iCloud backup, I found that a huge amount of items [mostly apps and music] were NOT restored!

I spent a whole lot of time attempting to sync my iPhone to iTunes. I could not get the job done!

Going solar

Day 114

The Big Solar Panel

8:23am:
We are in the process of getting a big solar panel which will be mounted on Tr├ínsito's roof rook.

Here is what we are buying:
➜ Kyocera 265 Watt Solar Panel
➜ Morningstar TriStar 30 amp MPPT Battery Charge Controller

Placed an order
Yesterday, we placed an order for the panel and controller with Northern Arizona Wind and Sun. A long time solar outfit. But this morning, I received an email from a lady in their accounting department. She questioned our ship to address!?
