Fulltiming

Day 165

About MsScampy

10:46am:
We wrote about this  before. However, it bears repeating so that you may understand why my living fulltime inside MsScampy is sooooo wonderful for me!

Our Scampy's inside dimensions are 78" wide x 124" long. That comes out to 67.2 square feet, including the shower/toilet room.

However, that 67.2 square feet is illusive. Because MsScampy is actually
4-rooms in one!
➜ Kitchen
➜ Bedroom
➜ Dining room
➜ Living room

.

Comparing MsTioga to MsScampy
MsTioga was 160 square feet in area. From the back of her passenger/driver seats to the inside of her rear wall. However, all of the areas of MsTioga were single purpose.

Scampy's 4-rooms combined come out to be a total of 268 square feet!! That is the reason that I am sooooo comfortable being a fulltimer with Scampy.

And please, do not forget Tránsito. Our noble tow vehicle. Tránsito's storage area is 55" wide x 68" long. That's 26 square feet!!

So, the Scampy RV Team has 294 feet in usable space. That's 134 square feet more than MsTioga [If my math is right!].

1:49pm:
Seeking a road less travelled
Our path to Apple Valley had us traveling along Interstate 5. A cruel and heartless road.  Straight as an arrow.

That's the thing about computerized directions. It's as if the only thing we are interested in saving a few minutes.

So, in a dash for freedom, we turned off on a random exit and perused an online map for anywhere towards the east. We found the Town of Tranquility. And we asked Siri to take us there!

2:30pm:
Tranquility
When we reached the Town of tranquility, something was going on. Sheriff's cars blocked the streets!

We learned from talking to a County Sheriff, that there is a parade today. "The food in the fair is the best your going to get today," the sheriff told us. We went over there and bought 3-Carne Asada tacos [$1.25/ea]. Not bad! We asked permission to sit at a table with 3-locals. Nice conversation!

Staying on roads less travelled!
We look for a town about 10 to 20 miles away. In the general direction that we wish to go. Of course Google and Siri always come up with faster alternative routes [ie: If you go this way, you will save 3-minutes].

We pay no attention to go on those  alternative route. What have we got to faster for?

Little iPhone's pics along the way!

5:30pm:
San Joaquin, California
We have traveled 70 miles from our Nite Camp last nite. We are now in the Town of San Joaquin. This is small town. But there are nice stores here. Just not a lot of them.

I had some net connectivity issues and ask T-Mobile for assistance. T-Mobile was able to make an adjustment to the cell tower that I was using. And I appear to be able to Blog again! Yaayyy!

Scampy Team Achievements
Over that past several weeks, our Team has made great improvement in what we do and how we do it.

Some things are large things. Some are small things. But every single thing makes life better for us!

➜ Remounted our Yingli solar panel from the ugly green plywood board to an all-aluminum frame➜ Installed a Renogy Rover MPPT fully automatic solar charge controller
➜ Remounted our Samlex DC to AC pure sine wave inverter from the front of the bench seat to Scampy's rear wall. This change really helps us because the electric outlets are so handy now
➜ Installed DuraSafe's Coupler Connect. A great safety enhancement [Link]
➜ Revised Scampy's Suburban 2-burner range so that cleaning can be done as easily as washing a large dish plate.
➜ Installed a floor mat at Scampy's entrance which traps dirt from shoes
➜ Installed numerous baskets and hooks in Tránsito's storage area. Including the BIG wood box which holds many grocery items that formerly clogged up Scampy's storage area.

This last one, the BIG wood box is a biggy. Because now we may buy grocery items before running out. We used to have to run out of an item and then buy it because there was no place to unload.

Gotta love it!

BTW: After reading the list above, do you now better understand why I love tweaking so much? 😎

  1. Um, I don't think your math is quite correct George. It seems you're quadrupling the sq ft because it seems like 4 rooms but you only have the 83.5 sq ft in Scampy. I'm sure it feels like more because of the 4 "rooms" but it's only one at a time.

    1. Don,

      Maybe my math is right-on-target.

And maybe, just maybe, your imagination needs a bit of child-like behavior restored to it?

      Whatta ya think?

  2. Don you have to remember Georgie is very short everything looks big to him
But I think I figured out George's mathematical formula
Let's see if I get this right he has 83.5 ft.² if you divide that times 4 it comes out to 20.875
So another words if he stands in the middle of his trailer he can be in the living room bedroom kitchen and dining room all at the same time,, what a hell of a decision he has to make and what makes it worse is, if he has to go to the bathroom he needs go through the living room the kitchen and the dining room to get there,, and to top it off we don't even want to know mental gymnastics if he decides to go get a glass of milk in the kitchen and retire to the dining room
But on the plus side I'm sure he can see the TV in the living room from the dining room.
Well it's a good thing He didn't get the one with the office model in there that would only give him 17.7 ft.²
I don't know why he needs to go to 24 hour fitness, just running around inside his house must tire him out
PS just think of snow White and the seven dwarves it worked out right for them And they only had one bedroom

  3. Whoa hold the train,,, Georgia,, we just found you another room you left out the bathroom that's another 19.5 ft.² damn you're going to need track shoes to run around in there that's enough room to put a 21" LED entertainment center in

    1. Gosh darn it George you told a fib to us again
If the actual interior comes out to 10' x 6'6" that comes out to 66 ft.²
I would highly suggest you aluminate the bedroom and the living room and the dining room but keep the kitchen

  6. Hi George...
Are you sure your Scampy is 97 inches wide? That would mean it is over 8 feet wide! I was looking into perhaps buying one a short time ago, and the width was listed as 6' 8" (80 inches).

  8. I believe that Hwy 33 used to be the "West Side Highway" before 5 was built in the 1960s -- "West Side" being the west side of the San Joaquin Valley. You can drive a long way north or south on Hwy 33 -- some areas are more scenic than others. The area around Taft is full of oil fields, not very scenic but rather interesting. Have you ever been to Parkfield? Another town "back of beyond."

  9. Hi George... re T-Mobile... I switched after you made your change...and I could not make or receive voice calls while at my home. A mile north along a main road and all was well. Long story short...they finally supplied me (free) with a "Personal CellSpot" also described as a 4G LTE CellSpot" that I use hooked up to my home Xfinity Internet.
As I wrote this I realized you would not have Scampy Internet. But then I wondered what if you had Direct TV with Internet? Then you would have better phone service via Personal CellSpot. Really too technical for me...but may help others who may have also switched to T-Mobile for their 55+ plan.

    1. Hi Ernie,

You commented about a T-Mobile personal cell spot. I need one of those! Would make my life much easier.

    2. The personal cell spot would not help you George. It needs to have a good internet connection (Like Xfinity Residential SVC) to work. For voice calls, the cell spot allows a person to make voice calls over the internet instead of trying to connect to a cell tower.

    3. Hi Robert,

I kinda expected that would be the case for a personal cell spot. A T-Mobile person advised me to get one to solve my net connectivity issues.

Right now I am barely getting online with T-Mobile here in the Town of San Joaquin. I prowled around here last nite, until I found a spot that gave me 2-bars. One bar does NOT cut it here.

If I move just 10-feet in any direction from this spot, I get only 1-bar and am not on the net!

  10. If you head down Hwy 33, stop in the Texaco station and store at Blackwell's Corner(Hwy 33 and 46). It's the last place actor James Dean stopped before his fatal car crash a few miles west of there and the store is full of James Dean displays.

Or if you go over to Hwy 43, there's Allensworth State Historic Park. Allensworth was a farming community started by African Americans in the early 1900s. It was prosperous for a while, then failed due to water problems. There's a visitor center, numerous restored buildings and a campground. But I'm not sure what days it's open because the state Park website is down.

  11. George, are you pulling our leg regarding the square footage of your Scamp? You have approximately 66 sq feet of space, that is it. You can not times it by 4 just because you think you have 4 rooms. You have one room. Just because you use that one room as a kitchen, dining room, bedroom and living room doesn't make it any bigger.
