Twayler

169th Day since leaving Apple Valley!

Lone Wolf RV Park

8:09am:
This morning, we are heading out of the City of Bakersfield. Bound for Lone Wolf RV Park where Twayler is stored. If we arrive at Lone Wolf today, that will be a 148 mile trip.

I have not made the decision to try and sell Twayler in the Apple Valley area. It might be better to have Twayler towed to the San Diego area. Store Twayler there. Then do all of the unloading of the stuff inside Twayler.

10:49am:
Dark glasses
This Blog post is really not about dark glasses. It just started with dark glasses.

This is about Apple Computer and their Siri product. I did not know anything about Siri before buying a Pioneer radio with a screen. The Pioneer included Apple's CarPlay.

CarPlay is essentially iOS for your dashboard. By placing the most popular iPhone functions on a big screen right in the center of a car's dashboard, and adding enhanced voice control and interaction through SiriApple aims to make using your iPhone while driving an easier and, more importantly, safer affair.

Unfortunately, Siri's quality is not good.  This morning, for example, I wanted to go to Denny's in the City of Tehachapi. Siri does not interpret my voice correctly for the word Tehachapi.

Siri returns: To hatch a pea. The reason for this error is that Siri does not check to see if the phrase: "To hatch a pea" makes any sense with my total search phrase of:
"Denny's in Tehachapi" or
"Denny's Restaurant in the City of Tehachapi"

Now, back to Dark Glasses:
When I wear my dark glasses, I cannot see the screen in my Pioneer radio. However, I am able to follow directions from Siri by listening to those directions.

Recently, Apple had an update for iPhone. Somehow, after that update, Siri lost her voice! Siri does not speak a word anymore!! So, I have been going to Google for directions. Google maps uses the Google search engine. Google knows what the phrase, "Tehachapi" actually is.

BUT! Apple's CarPlay does not recognize Google!! So, I follow Google Map's directions to Denny's in Tehachapi with my iPhone. And listen to my music on CarPlay.

Apple Computer? Do you really believe that you somehow are anywhere close to Google with Siri?!

1:54pm:
Evaporative cooler
While driving this morning, I was thinking about adapting Scampy's Fantastic Fan into an evaporative cooler. That would be really neat! Simple design too.

A sheet metal shop could easily fabricate such a cooler out of stainless steel to reduce corrosion.

This cooler would allow the Scampy team to travel to warm areas and remain comfortable!

Whatta ya think? 😎

5:31pm:
Back in Apple Valley!
We left Apple Valley on Monday, May 8th. That's 169 days ago. Close to six months for us to be on-the-road.

And we loved every second of life with Scampy. 😍

We are not able to say, "Hi" to Twayler today. That will have to wait until tomorrow. Because the Lone Wolf office is closed now.

Halloween!

Boooo!

  1. I would have Twayler towed to the San Diego and think about selling it a little more. There are sure to be other parks in case you change your mind. Marilyn

    1. Hi Marilyn,

      Thank you for your comment.

Change my mind? You mean change my mind about selling Twayler?

Actually, for me the choice is to live in Scampy full time. Or part time. I choose full time. Which leaves Twayler without a purpose.

  2. Hi George,
I suggest that you don't be too anxious to sell Twayler yet. Living in that phone booth that you tow around may yet get "old". It would be nice to have the larger Twayler to call a home base...

  3. Hi George, Is Jojoba Hills a closed subject? Can I ask if you were ever given an explanation of being removed from their wait list? I am an escapee member, have been since about 2001. We have stayed at a few of their parks and been warmly received. The decision just doesn't seem in line with the overall philosophy of the organization. Very strange.
My Escapee # is below 70,000.

  4. As I understand it, the co-op type of SKP campgrounds can be pretty independent of SKP purview. I have been a member since 1991, and my number is below 20,000, but I'm not sure that gives me any insight into the rules at any given location.

Actually we owned a lot at the North Ranch location near Phoenix for twelve years. But that was not a co-op, but rather an owned-lot situation. I found no fault with how it was run; we just never seemed to go there, so we sold it. Had we actually lived there, even part time, it may have been a different story. We visited exactly twice for a total of about four days during those twelve years. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but our circumstances changed drastically.

Presume that the clause that either party may nullify the agreement with or without cause is the deciding factor to success. This probably saves a lot of unnecessary grief in any situation. I wouldn't want to be forced to follow through on something that had seemed a good idea at the time, but circumstances had changed in the time between starting the process, and when a lot was actually available.

  5. You’ll need a pump to keep the fibrous mat moist, which means drawing the water out of your tank or installing a separate tank. Is the fantastic fan strong enough to blow through the mat so as to cool the whole area?

    1. Hi Bill,

Separate tank. Filled by hand when more water needed.

Yes, I believe that Fantastic Fan is more than strong enough.

As I imagine it, there will be four mats. One on each side. About 4" high.

Not too much area to cool down, Bill. I am able to touch opposite walls with my out stretched hands!

    2. Swamp coolers only work in areas of low humidity.

  6. Well, my gut feeling years ago regarding the escapees is the same today, as it was back then.... Stay Clear.
There is so much more opportunities available in our Country that one never really needs to settle for seconds.
Most likely, some old bitty alerted the board of something that was stated here on George's blog and it caused the BOD to vote no.... at George's young age, he doesn't need to drama bored people can create by 9AM each morning.... Keep up with the Adventures George.... you bring many laughs through your blog!

  8. Hey George,

I have noticed with my dark glasses (I wear polarized) that I can't see my phone if the screen is mounted landscape. But if I turn it 90 degrees I can. You might play with that if you have the option.
