Huge tweak

Day 21

Scampy's New Door Lock

8:16am:
Yesterday afternoon, we received several things that we ordered online. One of these thing is a new lock for Scampy's door.

The lock provided by Scamp Trailer, in my opinion, is a pitiful device. The worst thing about this door lock, is that the latching mechanism sometimes allows the door to swing open while Scampy is moving down the road! That happened just yesterday. Another driver waved at us and pointed to Scampy. When we looked, the door was open!

I found this lock online after doing a Google search for "Scamp trailer door lock." This search directed me to Scamp Owners International forum.

I found quite a bit of discussion in the forum about replacing the lock.

10:16am:
Consignment sale
I had not considered selling Twayler via a consignment to an RV dealership. Until Mister Ed, in comments wrote:

"George have you thought about putting your trailer under consignment to a reputable RV dealership ?

I would think you would have better exposure. The dealership has access to banks for people that want to finance. And guess what,, you don't have to pay storage rent,, or deal with tire kickers."

Bobby Combs RV
I am considering Bobby Combs in El Cajon for doing a consignment sale. I bought Twayler from Bobby Combs.

I like this RV dealership. They strike me as honest folks.

  1. We had a side door on out second Tioga that would swing open the odd time. At least in a motorhome you know right away when it happens The new latch looks like it has a longer bolt that should solve your problem.

    1. Hi Croft,

Thanks for sharing about your door swinging open experience.

I like this door lock for Scampy because a lot of Scamp owners have given this lock a Thumbs Up! 👍

    2. Agreed. All the twists and turns would make our door swing open too! The new lock has a longer bolt. Looks like you're in good shape now.

    3. Hi LBM,

The twist and turns are not causing Scampy's door to fly open. It that bad lock that does it.

If I lock that lock, the door does NOT fly open anymore.

  2. I had a trailer that would sometimes have door opening/closing issues due to the frame flexing from being parked a certain way.

    1. Hi Andrew,

Interesting that many commenters have a door flying open issues.

Never happened to me with MsTioga.

  3. I was travelling through Port Elizabeth when I lost my car keys and tried opening it randomly that damaged the door lock badly. Thus, I was badly in need of auto lock replacement, so I Goggled for locksmith near me and got quick assistance in a hassle-free manner.

    1. Hi Ashley,

Are you commenting that you were able to get "random keys" to go in your door lock?

Isn't that very hard to do?
