Autumn

Day 18

Out Our Window

9:04am:
While eating breakfast [Cereal topped with banana and a cup of Swiss Miss], out Scampy's rear window we viewed  a lovely tree shedding its Autumn leaves.

The tree was sooooo beautiful! Little iPhone quickly captured that tree. And then Nat King Cole began to sing "Autumn Leaves."

Wow!

Autumn Leaves

.

11:52am:
New Lock Done!
Little iPhone heard Tioga George whooping and hollering outside.
"What's up?", asked iPhone.

Tioga replied, "The new lock's done!"

In an instant, iPhone was capturing the moment

Tioga George showing the new lock!

2:10am:
Onward!
I, Tioga George, am committed to getting The Scampy RV Team in tip-top shape. And I'm going onward in that direction until everything onboard is as perfect as I am able to get it.

I am an 80 year old RVer. This Blog that you are reading, is likely the very first RV Blog ever published.

My first Blog was published on May 14, 2003. That was only about three months after Google purchased Blogger from Pyra Labs on February 17, 2003.

[If you know of an earlier RV Blog, please let me know of it!]

This Onward Direction is my goal. It is my mission. I am buoyed up by what I am doing. Up to a higher place than I have ever been in my entire lifetime.

What a gift to me, is all of this!

6:48pm:
Like a refrigerator
I forgot to mention that:
Now, when Scampy's door closes, the sound the door makes is much like a very expensive refrigerator closing!

9:35pm:
Doings of the day
Besides completing Scampy's door lock project:
➜ Installed glare control film on driver side window [Link].
➜ Took everything out of Señor Tránsito's storage area. Cleaned up the storage area. And returned everything to storage.
➜ Cleaned Scampy's fridge, top to bottom.
➜ Prepared a replacement plywood mounting board for Wave 3 Catalytic Heater.
➜ Prepared a permanent plywood board for which we will do construction projects. This board will go on our two saw horses.  This board will be stored behind Tránsito's seats [An unused space!]

  1. We had our autumn leaves in September here in Northern WI. There is about 9 inches of snow in my yard right now with more coming ( its ok - I LOVE winter )

    1. We see you are parked across from the autumn leaves tree, obviously working on your projects in front of someone's home rather than a parking lot. Hopefully you got permission - would that be John and Mimi's?

    2. Hi Barb,

I shall reply to your comment this way:

      Definition of Thought Police:
A group of people [Or a person] who aim(s) or are seen as aiming to suppress ideas that deviate from the way of thinking that they believe to be correct.

    3. Hi Andrew,

I am sooooo glad that most folks love winter. Otherwise many of them might immigrate to San Diego!

Think of what such a mass-migration might do to San Diego!

    4. Who's suppressing what? Pathetic reply when one thinks about your stolen drill saga, $5 to a kid to smash a vehicle's lights then later admit to an untruth.

Since so unusual to see you working in someone's front yard, thought you'd be proudly telling us how a resident at your night camp made friends and generously let you work there on your projects.

you are definitely a rv blog trailblazer! I have read many of blogs over the years mostly pertaining to Van dwelling but not specific to rving per se. I think you are one of the most consistent and long-running blogs I have discovered so I give you a win in that category hahaha.
    Best regards from Annapolis Maryland

  3. There were other ways for people to blog before Blogger. But you might have been the first full timer to blog while on the road. Hard to know one way or the other.

That's very true! In those days, the only way to get on the net in remote locations, was to use HughesNet via the DataStorm Satellite Antenna. Hardly anybody had a DataStorm antenna in 2003!

Click [Here] to view page about DataStorm .

  4. Hi George. I cannot imagine any blogger, on any subject, even being close to you when all your life experiences are considered. As I have commented before, the people in charge of the RV Hall of Fame near Elkhart, IN need to learn about you and publicly recognize your many contributions to the industry.
The challenges you have overcome are amazing. Your ability to learn Spanish and report on your travels in Mexico ought to recognized and applauded. Your reporting on your trips to Israel were outstanding. I could go on. I am only 79 and have 119,000 miles on my Monaco Diplomat. I truly wish I had either blogged or simply recorded notes for my family, but I did neither.
You are my hero! God bless.

    1. What a thrill to see the above . . . that's me, Judie, and our Lazy Daze that Andy bought from us. We had her for ten years (1991 to 2000) of wonderful travel.

    2. Hi Ron,

I followed your URL/Link to Andy's current website which Andy has titled: Skylarking

Andy does not appear to put dates on his webpages. Difficult to determine when his pages went online.

      Excellent photography. Nice writing too.

If a comparison would be made between my Blog posts and Andy's pages, I believe that my site is the most consistent RV site in the entire world [Perhaps the entire known
      Universe!]. 😎

    3. Andy's travels, adventures and blogs have been my and many others inspiration. His "Improving Gertie" section and index gave many of us ideas and how to's to improve our RVs, and he continued with Skylark. A quality site to puruse and come away with helpful, informative and fun information.

  6. This Blog that you are reading, is likely the very first RV Blog ever published.

The 2nd. Mark has you beat by 6 years. He was one of the pioneers. He travel quite a bit and very technically oriented in the rv biz. Started out in a 5th wheel knowing nothing about rv's and travel for 10 years before running out of money. Now works for Escapees in Livingston,Tx. I followed him before I found your site.

    1. Hi again, Ken,

I followed your URL/Link to Mark Nemeth's webpages.

It appears that mark has not posted anything to his pages since 2010. While my Blog and webpages just keep on going right along. Day by day. Ad infinitum!

    1. Hi Eric,

A catalytic heater is not a wood stove. In my opinion, the relationship that you seek to establish between these two types of heaters does not apply.

  9. I first stumbled across Aliza Sherman's site in 2001 at http://www.rvgirl.com which recounted her RVing ventures and then Andy Baird's soon after, both of which got me interested in RVing. But neither were in a true blogging format like George's, and neither are still blogging. I wonder if George might not also hold the distinction of being the longest-running RVing blogger.
