Mazatlán

Day 39

Preparing for Mexico

7:48am:
This morning I entered into my calendar for January 15th, "Mexico - Head Out."

It's not a difficult thing to go to Mexico:
➜ Buy Mexican vehicle insurance for Tránsito and Scampy
➜ Ready my USA passport
➜ Debit card for buying pesos
➜ Bring Boid over to John and Mimi's

The Scampy Team plans to enter Mexico at the Lukeville, Arizona border crossing. We will obtain a 6-month tourist card at the Mexican immigration office located there. We plan to use a bank's ATM to get pesos in the Town of Sonoyta at the border.

From the border to Mazatlán is only about 800 miles!

.

11:38am:
Lake Murray
After shopping for Boid's spray millet, we were thinking about heading over to Mission Bay. Then, we thought about Lake Murray Park. The park is closer, and really nice.

We have just set up at a slightly downhill parking place. We leveled Scampy out with her tongue jack.

Do you see how much Scampy has leveled out?

  2. George, the following is for your information so that you will be aware of what is going on at the border. Les found out that patience paid off in his situation, and he was intuitive enough to take care of the tourist permit paperwork the day before he was to cross the border.

If you have a chance, read mexicokid.blogspot.com by Les Pearson. Look to the far right of his blog for his archive, select 2017 (266), scroll down to Monday 4th December 2017 Border Issues!!!

I have Les' personal e-mail in San Miguel if you wish to speak with him privately about the matter.

After you cross the border, I know you will have a lovely trip!

    1. Hi Dee,

I went over to that Blog. The photo is not sized for the internet. Takes too long to download the opening pic.

I likely will not have any challenge crossing the border at Sonoyta. In any case, I'll Blog to you about it.

  7. Rvers are crossing everyday without waiting in long lines. Today a caravan crossed and had zero problems or lost time. I see no issues. Looking forward to your adventure and those you meet along the way.

    2. Chris, cannot agree with you more. But, just has been said before by Kevin, Ruth, and even you, be aware of what is going on around you whether in the US, any country in Europe, or Mexico. Les and George have a similar paperwork situation where each has an "expired" temporary resident card and with Les it showed up on border security computers and he was detained for a short period of time but handled it with great patience and was allowed to obtain the tourist permit after border security extracted a promise from him to see immigration when he arrived in San Miguel. The whole story is in two of Les' posts with accompanying comments identified above.

  9. Call your credit card company and let them Know you are traveling in Mexico. If your phone is unlocked then possible some card from Tecel or get a cheap phone. You can add minutes and data at any OXXO store. I did not think you could get a vehicle permit in Sonita. Only at Kilometer 21 pass nogals or outside of Quaymas spelling is bad.
