Day 41

Scampy's First Big Rain

7:56am:
Yesterday evening it began to rain. Pretty much all nite long and into the morning, rain continued to fall.

This is Scampy's first big rain. When we checked for leaks, no leaks were found. This is as expected. After all, Scampy has an all fiberglass body!

We have considered undercoating Scampy. Her bottom is made from pressed wood. Not too good with water.

8:42am:
Twayler still for sale
We have not been actively pursuing a buyer for Twayler. The dead of winter is not a good time for that.

However, if you would be interested in owning Twayler yourself, please let us know!

4:09pm:
Mexican Insurance
I've just finished purchasing liability insurance for Señor Tránsito and MsScampy. The cost was $140 for one month.

Price has gone up considerably since I wrote the MsTioga Magazine story about insurance in Mexico. I wrote that story several years ago.

6:28pm:
Dangerous driving
I should not be driving after sundown when it is raining like it is now. It's difficult for drivers to see the road when it is like this.

Just a little while ago, I was turning left. A  pedestrian crossing the intersection and wearing dark clothing was almost invisible to me. Not good!

  1. If you decide you're going to put undercoating on your trailer may I suggest you use rhino liner or spray in bed liner. it's used on pick ups new and old.
It's a rubberized coating once applied it's inprevious to most anything that would be distractive. you can usually find it auto / paint body company to do it

    1. Hi Ed,

I am very likely to have undercoating applied to Scampy. But, I am not going to do it myself.

I do not believe that I am physically capable of doing that job.

Thank you for the Rhino Liner recommendation!

  2. I thought you were keeping the trailer to live in during the warmer months? That would be so nice.

    1. Hi ndenim,

Maybe at first that was my intention. However, now I am fulltiming in Scampy.

And for me, this is just plain fantastic! I am so at home in Scampy. Even now in the middle of a rain storm. 😎

  3. George you are so right regarding "driving after sundown when it is raining . . ." Beach and I plan our trips to leave at first light and make sure we are home or have made I've our destination before sundown, and rain just makes it tougher to drive defensively. Heck, I'm just thankful to God that we are able to continue to drive at our age and is why we get regular eye checkups.

Regarding all the rain you are having, I just noted earlier on the nightly news that your rain is causing havoc in Santa Barbara and surrounding areas where the big Thomas fire covered large acreage. Mudslides in that area is everywhere, and Hwy. 101 has been shut down. Southern California really deserves a break. Has all the rain been causing you big problems, other than driving in it at night? At least you have your home on wheels; I see that a lot of people's homes are just sliding down hills and mountains; what a waste.

    1. Hi Dee,

About defensive driving. Perhaps it's just my imagination, but it seems to me that many drivers now are just so darned aggressive!

When I signal to change a lane, the driver in that lane accelerates instead letting me in. This happens so often! What happened to courtesy?

About the rain. No, the rain has not caused me big problems. Just the reduction of visibility at nite while raining.
