Internet

7:38am:
Our T-Mobile plan gives us 51gb of unlimited data. When we exceed that 51 gigs, our data speed goes way down. At times, so far down that it's almost impossible to browse or do email.

However, if we are in a location where there is little data usage by others, our data speed goes all the way up to high speed.

Elevation

7:45am:
When I Blogged to you about having problems with my Olympian Catalytic Heater, I was camping at 7,529 feet elevation. Last nite our Nite Camp was at 6,479 feet elevation.

Only 1,040 feet lower. But that made a big difference for the heater's operation. I was comfortable all nite long!

Heater

6:24am:
It slipped my mind that our Olympian Catalytic Heater does not operate well at high altitude. We are at 7,519 feet. It was a bit chilly during the nite with the Olympian set on high heat. Inside Scampy the temperature got down to 56℉.

We have an alternative way to warm up Scampy. We have a small electric heater that operates at 750 watts. We would use our Honda generator to power the heater.

It is also possible to power the heater using our solar electric system. The inverter puts out 1500 watts. However, our 95 amp-hour deep cycle might be tested for this task.

As we left our Nite Camp, there were hardly any cars on US 395

Downer

8:20am:
Yesterday was a bit of a downer for me. However, this morning I've been going over what happened yesterday. Why did I let the happenings of yesterday get me down? Everything that happens, gets resolved.

This morning, I am back to my old self again!

City of Bishop

7:10am:
When we head out of our Nite Camp this morning, we will be bound for Bishop, about 87 miles to the north.

On the way, we will take a look at Alabama Hills. Several Readers have commented recommending we look at this place.

The Main Salmon River and the Town of Riggins Idaho are now 794 miles to the north.

Our Trip

7:36am:
The Scampy Team began this trip in San Diego. We headed out from San Diego last Friday, May 18th. We have traveled 215 miles in three days. That averages 72 miles each day. For us, this is the perfect amount of driving to do in a day.

Map links
We plan to place a Nite Camp Location Map link at the bottom of every Blog post during this trip. Tapping this link will take you to a Google map showing the location of our Nite Camp.

When the Google map comes up, you will see in the lower left corner of the map a small square. Tapping on this square will take you from a Street Map to a Satellite Map. We recommend Satelite Map. Much more info and more fun too!

Riggins Idaho

6:55am:
Our destination for this trip is Riggins, Idaho. The Main Salmon River flows just to the east of Riggins. This morning we have 928 miles to travel.

However, as is our style, we search shall search for adventure all along the way. Traveling for a few hours, eyes searching the scene for something interesting to explore. Where will we find it?

Twayler

7:29am:
We are about 90 miles away from Lone Wolf RV Park in the City of Apple Valley. As you may recall, this is the home of our trailer. The one and only, Twayler!

We will be visiting Twayler today to check out how she is doing in the Lone Wolf storage yard.

Go or stay

7:35am:
Lately, every day I've been going to my Blog's archives searching for river sites where I've camped. I want to go and see those rivers again.

Why don't I just up and go?

Olden Days

7:35am:
Back in the olden days when we went to camp in a national park, we just showed up. Even Yosemite and Yellowstone. There was no reservation system! It was so very easy.

Lately, we have been thinking about those days. Because we were so carefree back then. We just headed out. We would travel perhaps 30+ miles and camp. After 10-days, we had traveled 300 miles. On and on we would go. No destination in mind.

We just wandered around, searching for adventure.

Stealth Camping

8:05am:
It takes experience and skill to be a successful Stealth RV Camper. We on the Scampy Team have both many years experience and skill.

The current crop of RVers that we see in the San Diego area appears to have neither. Persons camping on the street must be sensitive to their neighbors. This means, for example, pulling out of their Nite Camps early in the morning so as not to be a bother to those neighbors.

I am not going to defend the rights of RV campers to live on the streets. Nor am I going to justify RVers violating local parking regulations. Both locals and RVing street campers often are in opposition. And both may be right.

Doctor

11:30am:
I am expecting my Kaiser doctor to phone this morning. This is to talk with me about my high blood pressure reading from my May 10th appointment at Kaiser.

I am not sure how open I will be with my doctor about how I feel concerning prescription medication. I may just accept his prescription and then simply not take the medication. I do not wish to be confrontational with my primary care physician.

My experience with prescription medication has been disastrous! In June 2016 I had a great improvement in my health after going off all meds. I have not taken any meds since then.

First Blog post

8:48am:
My friend Florida Mike emailed about my first Blog post on May 14, 2003. If Mike had not emailed, I would have forgotten this anniversary. Fifteen years ago. Wow! So much has happened since then!

MsTioga and I roamed the Western United States, Western Canada and all of Mexico. We lived in Mexico for seven years, 2007 to 2013. We visited Israel and Guatemala.

MsTioga died in 2014. In 2016 Scampy, Twayler and Señor Tránsito joined the team.

It has been quite a ride!

Salt

10:20am:
Yesterday when I prepared salmon steak for supper, I added Lawry's Garlic Salt for flavor. Later in the evening, I noticed that the area of my abdomen appeared to have doubled in size! I could tell how much bigger by pinching the fat.

This morning, when I pinch my abdomen, it appears to have reduced back to the size it had been!

I can draw no other conclusion other than my eating the salt was responsible. If I am determined to reduce the fat in my abdomen in order to be able to see the muscles underneath, I can no longer eat salt.

Note: Enlarging of the fat on my abdomen is due to water retention. Not an increase in my fat.

Eating plan

9:26am:
So far, I'm sticking with my eating plan. Breakfast and supper. Two meals each day. Today for breakfast I ate one omelet and one slice rye toast. For supper on the menu is a Sockeye Salmon Fillet and fried slices of zucchini squash.

For snacks, walnuts, baby carrots also peanuts. No cookies or candy.

I'm not having any trouble holding to this eating plan. I'm kind of anxious to see what will happen to the fat around my mid-section. There's not too much fat there now. But when I look around at many of the men and women at 24 Hour Fitness, I want to be like them!

My health

7:53am:
Yesterday I Blogged to you about my recent blood pressure readings that were higher than those readings have been for my entire life. Also, my appointment with my doctor to discuss my blood pressure which was supposed to occur yesterday was postponed by my doctor to May 15th.

I believe that I am living a very healthy life. I exercise every other day.  Both with weights and aerobically. I've reduced the amount of food that I consume to be more in line with my activity. I do not add any salt to my food.

I believe that I'm eating a balanced diet. Fruits, vegetables, eggs, fish. No cookies or candy. I eat about 2-squares of dark chocolate daily.

I do eat beef steak and burgers. But not often. I've eaten at In-n-Out burger seven times since last October. I eat a steak at Sizzler not more than once a month.

Blood pressure

7:43am:
This morning I'll be going Kaiser to have my blood pressure rechecked. You may recall that when I went to have my Pacemaker checked on May 4th, my blood pressure was checked as well. The reading was 144/78.

This BP reading is very unusual for me. In January 2018, my BP was 114/75. In February 2017 my BP was115/71.

I am in better physical condition today than I have been for years. I do not add any salt to my food and am being very careful with my diet.

If today's BP check comes out high again, I may request BP medication from my Kaiser doctor.

Supper

8:51am:
Yesterday we had an invitation to John & Mimi's for supper. Meatloaf! Yummm! We made our Nite Camp over there.

Now we are back at 24 Hour fitness. Gonna have tuna salad on matzos for breakfast before going into 24 to workout.

My diet plan is going well. I'm sticking to "No eating after 6pm." During the evening, food keeps nagging at me. But since I made my mind to not eat after 6pm, I seem to have the willpower to do it. 😎

Eating healthy

1:07pm:
I believe that I am having very good results from my exercise program. My belly fat is greatly reduced. Muscles growing. I am stronger.

However, my attempts to increase my ability to sit on the floor and then rise up to a standing position have been without meaningful improvement. I am not giving up! I intend to repeat this exercise everytime that I workout at 24 Hour Fitness!

A couple of days ago, I tossed out my cookies and chips. Instead of cookies, I'm eating baby carrots.

Also, tuna salad will be on my menu much more often.

Rock n Roll

11:10am:
We are still at our Nite Campsite, a few blocks away from 24 Hour Fitness. This is an industrial/commercial area. An especially quiet place with little traffic on Sundays.

I prepared breakfast, one egg up and rye toast. While cleaning up after breakfast, I was watching a YouTube video of Neil Young performing at Farm Aid 1985. He was so very young at that time.

Cardio

12:18am:
Yesterday I went to Kaiser Cardiology to have my pacemaker checked out. All is well with my pacemaker.

There was one thing that caught my attention. My blood pressure which was 115/71 in February 2017 has risen to 144/78. It may be that the reason for this blood pressure rise is that I have been too sedentary. I have not been doing cardio exercise at 24 Hour.

Today at 24 Hour Fitness I rode the stationary bike for 30 minutes. During my muscle exercises, I changed my routine to very high reps at lower weight. This changed my muscle exercises into cardio as well.

Change

12:10am:
As you may have figured out from my Blog posts, there is a sameness to my days here in San Diego. I have experienced times like these often. Unchanging times.

And I have come to know, that traveling toward me, a day will come where whatever that change is will be here.

I am comforted with knowing about that. Change is something that I depend on. Something that I count on. That is why I enjoy these times in San Diego. I am patient with the knowledge that change is on its way.

The Sun

7:54am:
The Sun has returned to San Diego. The past few have had heavy cloud cover and misty too. I did not even go outside to wash Scampy and Tránsito. This morning, there is not a cloud in the sky! 😎

We are over at the 24 Hour Fitness parking lot. After breakfast, I will go inside 24 Hour to workout.

Hedonist

2:56pm:
I do not believe that I am a hedonist. However, I do get pleasure from doing the things that I do regularly. For example, watching movies and working out at 24 Hour Fitness.

I watch movies and workout not because I seek pleasure from these activities. I do these things because I feel happy when I do them.
