7AM - Lucky people
John, Carol and I were talking about how lucky we are to be able to live in Mexico during the winter time. Many retired RVers won't travel into Mexico anymore because they are scared by what they hear on the news.

8AM - Efectivo
MsTioga and I are going up to San Blas this morning to get efectivo for our El Chaco rent. Efectivo in Spanish means cash in English. We need about 5,000 pesos [$385US] to pay for a month's rent at El Chaco. There are a couple of banks in San Blas that have ATMs.

10AM - Need ABS cement
I need ABS cement for a plumbing job. ABS pipe and ABS cement is not sold in Mexico. Not that I could find.

8AM - The Canadians
Tacho's RV Park where MsTioga is camping is located a short walk from the marina where the cruise ships dock in the center of Puerto Vallarta. In mid-November, Tacho's fills up with French-Canadians. These RVers have been coming here for many years to escape Quebec's winters and especially to enjoy the tropical climate in Puerto Vallarta. Many of these people live in the same city in Quebec and are friends back home!

It is really neat how these people have fixed up the site where they park their RVs! Tacho's permits reserving sites. So, most of these French-Canadians have planted gardens around their RV home and return to the same site every winter!

4PM - Back at El Chaco
It took nearly the entire day to get from Puerto Vallarta to El Chaco RV Park! First we went shopping at the WalMart. Then tried to find vacationing friends from California who are staying in Nuevo Vallarta. Then there was napping, more shopping, eating!

When we arrived at El Chaco, we found John and Carol all set up in the RV campground. It took a couple hours talking to catch up on all the stuff that went on since the last time we were together. We all agree that a person is sooooooo lucky to be spending winter here in Mexico!

6AM - Return to Mexico
As you likely are aware, we on the TiogaRV Team love to travel. This trip to California has been wonderful. I've written to you before that we love driving a rental car [we call them rental beasts]. We love staying in good hotels. We even love going to the airport as we will do today for our return flight to Mexico! Because airports to us are soooooo exciting!

As this post is being written, our friend MsTioga is parked in Tacho's RV Park in the City of Puerto Vallarta. MsTioga is waiting patiently for her team mates to return. But we who are flying today are not patient. We are soooooo excited to see MsTioga once again!

You want to know something special about the TiogaRV Team? We often think about and consider giving up the vagabonding life style. It's true! But then, after thinking it over how it would be for us to live in a fixed home vs remaining free-as-a-bird vagabonds, we always choose vagabonds!

We want to remain free-as-birds for as long as we are able!

8:30AM - Boarding gate
We have reached our Alaska Airlines boarding gate a full two hours before the actual airplane boarding time. We love to be early like this! Being early takes all of the stress out of flying.

For example, when going thru baggage check this morning, two of our pieces of baggage were taken back thru inspection. It took another 20 minutes for this additional checking. But, since we are sooooo early, this was no problem. No stress! We just talked with TSA personnel and other passengers until the bags were returned.

Here at the boarding gate, LAX has provided tables with electric power and free WiFi. Pretty neat, huh?

5PM - Back with MsTioga!
The Alaska Airlines flight returning us to Mexico was perfect. Smooth as glass. Nice company made for good conversation with our seat mates.

We caught a taxi at the Puerto Vallarta airport which took us the short ride back to Tacho's RV park. The taxi guy knew about Tacho's, so I did not have to even give him any directions. When we arrived at Tacho's, we found MsTioga waiting patiently for us to return. As she always does when we are away on a trip.

7AM - Destiny
In bits and pieces here on my blog, I've shared all of my life with you. But I never shared before what I am writing to you today. When I was young, I had a dream of my destiny. In that destiny I got married, had children. My children got married and they had children. My grandchildren. My destiny led to a big extended family. We all got together for parties. It was wonderful.

But there are dreams that cannot be. Because when I was younger, I could not be the husband and father that I would have wished to be. Good bye marriage. My children never married. No grandchildren. I tried again with marriage. Two times. It did not work.

You probably already know this, but a person cannot be a good husband, a good father, unless they really know and understand themselves. And I did not begin that knowing, that understanding, until after I met MsTioga in 2003 and became an RVing vagabond.

I feel that I have grown into the person that I was meant to be. But it is way too late now to have that family that was in the dream of my destiny. If after we die, we must repeat our lives until we get it right, I may get another chance.

Pretty deep, huh?

PS: Today is my 75th birthday.

11AM - Cousin Jacky
After leaving San Diego, I have a date for breakfast with my Cousin Jacky. As you may recall, I have been very close with Jacky all of my life. We are pretty close to the same age. When I was born, Jacky and her family lived just across the street. Remember when Jacky and I visited Israel together in 2008?

Jacky lives in a senior citizen community called Laguna Woods.

3PM - Hotel near LAX
I'm now checked into La Quinta Inn close to LAX [Los Angeles International Airport]. La Quinta is also only a few blocks away from my car rental place. So, I am well prepared to be at the airport early tomorrow for my return flight to Mexico.

7AM - Keep a light on
Yesterday I wrote to you about a little accident that I had in my hotel room while walking around at nite in the complete darkness. Reader Rick emailed suggesting that keeping the light on in the bathroom with the bathroom door slightly ajar would illuminate the entire hotel room. I tried using this light-on idea last nite. And it worked great!

The bruise to my ribs from that accident bothers me a little bit. But not enough of a bother to stop me from going on a bike ride today with my friend John P. We will drive to Mission Beach Park in John's car and then bike up the concrete walk that parallels the beach.

When we arrive at the Pacific Beach area, we plan to stop for coffee at the little stand next to the walk-way. Then bike over to the "Five Guys Burger" joint for lunch. Good time!

8AM - Driving when old
Reader Katbyte posted in ShoutBox asking "Do you feel totally safe driving? Not a danger to yourself or others at all?" These are very interesting questions.

I began driving a motorcycle when I was 12 years old. Didn't have a driver's license because I was too young. I drove on small streets in the East Los Angeles neighborhood where I lived staying close to home so that I would not be seen by police.

When I got a driver's license at age 15-1/2, I also got a newspaper route delivering the "Los Angeles Daily News". One day rounding a turn, I heard the kickstand dragging and looked down at the kickstand to see what was happening. My attention was not on where I was driving and I drove the motorcycle into a parked car.

I tell this story to illustrate how age is not the deciding factor in whether a person is a safe driver or not. When I was young I had great reflexes compared to now. But back then, I did not have the discipline to drive safely.

6AM - Aging
This morning I was returning from the bathroom to my bed in the dark. It wasn't dark when I got up from bed because my eyes were adjusted to the darkness. But on the return to bed, I mistook where I was, stumbled into little phone/lamp table and fell down. I was not hurt. Just a slightly bruised rib.

Aging for me is a constant learning process. Everything changes so slowly. It's hard to get a handle on it. This morning's stumble was an example that shows what I mean. I can't do the things that I used to take for granted anymore. Like walking in the dark.

I wonder now if a time is coming in the future when I will not be able to walk at all? Wondering about that possibility makes me treasure today a great deal. Because today, I am still able to walk.

7AM - San Diego
In a little while we will head out of the City of Camarillo continuing south. We are bound for San Diego. It's Sunday morning, so the part of my trip thru Los Angeles should not be impacted by heavy traffic.

We have a hotel reservation at the Four Points Sheraton.

1PM - Four Points Hotel
We've just checked into our hotel. It is interesting to find that some hotel chains are consistently high in quality, while other hotels do not measure up. The Four Points Hotel in San Diego is one of those really good hotels that measures up! I recommend Four Points.

We are off now for the purpose of this part of our trip. To visit with friends John & Mimi. New Mavicita is going along, so we might capture some pics!

Bucket List

8AM - Bucket List
Yesterday I ate breakfast with a very close member of my family. We got to talking about how we felt about things. It got deep. I shared that I'd done pretty much everything on my Bucket List. Back in 2003 when I began my adventure with MsTioga, my desire was to rush at life. To search for adventure.

Now, after almost ten years on-the-road, I find that I am sooooo happy just driving around. Staying in hotels. Eating in restaurants. Can you imagine that? Hmmmmm?

After all of that, just doing what I am doing is just plain wonderful! This sort of baffles me. But it's true! I guess that I am happy now just being me.

9AM - Camarillo
I use Cheap Tickets to make hotel reservations. This morning I figured out where I wanted to stay tonite using Google maps. Then tuning into Cheap Tickets website, I search for hotels. We will spend the nite in the City of Camarillo.

I like Cheap Tickets because their website is easy to understand. Cheap Tickets' descriptions are accurate. Once I make a reservation, Cheap Tickets sends an email acknowledgement in about a minute. Support is easy to obtain either by phone or by chat-window.

Morning after

8AM - Morning after!
It is the morning after Thanksgiving Day. A very much loved family member is staying at the same hotel where I spent the nite. For reasons that I have explained many times before, I do not mention by name or with pics a few of my family members.  Because they do not want to be impacted by the notoriety of my blog story.

I will be going to breakfast with this family member. Please know that I am so happy to be doing this! Every so often a miracle happens. This is one of those times.

Later today I will heading south again. Have a date to meet with friends John & Mimi in San Diego on November 25th or 26th. John and I may be going on bike rides together at Mission Beach. Maybe going to "Five Guys" for burgers!

3PM - King City
We've just checked into the Quality Inn at King City. This motel did not receive high ratings. However, from what I can see right now, this hotel deserves a much higher rating.
  •  The TV is connected to a bunch of movie channels. Pretty neat, huh?
  • The bath is a Jacuzzi tub, with jets and everything!
  • There is a Kentucky Fried Chicken right around the corner. Love KFC!

7AM - Thankful
Today I will celebrate Thanksgiving Day at the home a friend who remarkably, was my former wife! I'm invited there this morning for breakfast. Then, later in the day, for our Thanksgiving Day feast.

Being invited like this is another proof to me that my future is completely unpredictable. So, I have stopped trying to guess what will happen in my life. Now I just kick back and enjoy what comes up.

After the Thanksgiving Day party, the plan is to remain overnite at the same hotel where I am right now. Then tomorrow drive south again bound for San Diego where I will spend time with my very close friend, John P. It will take 2-3 days to drive to San Diego because, as you may know, I am not able to drive very long distances in a single day.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Everybody on the TiogaRV Team wishes you a Happy Thanksgiving Day!
