Oregon Trail

12 Noon - The Oregon Trail
In yesterday's blog post, we told you about one of our days on the Oregon Trail. There were two videos for you to see that we recorded on September 2, 2007. However, on September 1, 2007, we recorded another Oregon Trail and today share that video with you! I found these video to be really neat, and hope that you like them too.

Note about movie: In this movie I stated that Echo Meadows is not on the main Oregon Trail. This statement is incorrect. Echo Meadows is definitely on the main Oregon Trail, and not a "cutoff" trail as I stated in the movie!

Blog purpose

11AM - Purpose of blog
What is the reason or purpose for publishing my blog? In years past, it was to share my travels with you. However, for several months I have not been traveling much at all. Now the reason for publishing my blog is to keep contact with you telling you what is on my mind.

It would be a sad thing, it seems to me, to give up my blog simply because I am not traveling. And since I have established a tradition of a "daily" blog, I intend to keep doing daily posts

I understand why some readers have stopped tuning in. But what I do NOT understand, is for a reader to write to me characterizing my writing as "drivel". If a reader no longer likes what I write, why do they simply not tune in anymore. After all, my blog is free.

September 2, 2007 - On the Oregon Trail
Back in 2007 the TiogaRV Team were following the Oregon Trail. When we arrived at the Boardman Segment of the trail, we published a couple of videos for you to enjoy. Below is part of our post from 2007:

5PM - Well Spring.
We are at Well Spring in the Boardman Segment of the Oregon Trail. This is one of the longest traces and trail ruts of the Oregon Trail.

George and Little Mavicito are out there on the Oregon Trail right now shooting another movie! Would you believe?

Leisure Laziness

7AM - Leisure vs Laziness
I've long been troubled by the meaning of "Laziness", confusing it with the meaning of "Leisure". Benjamin Franklin wrote about this in his Poor Richard's Almanac. And I have been reading Poor Richard recently in order to bone up to the meaning of these two words.

Poor Richard wrote:
"Methinks I hear some of you say, ‘Must a man afford himself no leisure?' I will tell thee, my friend, what Poor Richard says, Employ thy time well, if thou meanest to gain leisure; and, since thou art not sure of a minute, throw not away an hour. Leisure is time for doing something useful; this leisure the diligent man will obtain, but the lazy man never; for A life of leisure and a life of laziness are two things."

I have been under the impression that my watching of movies is being lazy. Now, under the tutelage of Poor Richard, I understand that watching movies is actually a leisure time activity. Wow! How good I feel to find that I am not lazy at all!

11AM - Miramar
MsTioga and I are heading out from El Chaco for our appointment with Doctor Eladio in Santa Cruz. I am feeling fine. This appointment with the doctor is for a recheck of my chest congestion. Doctor Eladio asked me to return to his office on the day after running out of antibiotic medication.

On the way back from Santa Cruz, we will stop to take a peek at the RV Park in the Town of Miramar. We have never been to Miramar before.

3PM - RV Park?
Although we did not find the RV Park in Miramar, nobody on the TiogaRV Team felt deprived. Often in Mexico, a sign advertising a place stays up long after the actual company behind the sign is gone.

However, New Mavicita did take a pic for you to see. It is a pic of the beach at Miramar. Many little beach-side restaurants here.

Laid back Sunday

1PM - Laid back Sunday
Mellow guitar music is coming from the sound system here at El Chaco. It is so laid back this afternoon. Of course, every day is laid back at El Chaco.

I just finished eating breaded fried shrimp at El Chaco's restaurant. I eat here maybe 2-3 times a week. The shrimp are big, and very tender!

My illness
Today is the last day that I am on antibiotics for chest congestion. This medication has reduced that congestion a great deal. Tomorrow I return to Doctor Eladio for a check up.

Too much heaven

11AM - Too much heaven
Since I am a person who lives in heaven, I think about living in heaven a lot. Not 'heaven-in-the-sky'. But heaven on Earth. Did you know that "heaven" is a nebulous place? Lots of people living here in heaven complain about what's here, or what is not here. That's the mysterious thing about heaven. How do you know that you are actually there or not there?

I have come to understand that the key to knowing about heaven may be found in imagination. If a person is able to imagine themselves in a terrible place, then their understanding of "when they are in heaven" may become startlingly clear. For example, if you were able to imagine yourself locked up in Folsom Prison, then your actual life in heaven-on-Earth may suddenly become absolutely fantastic and wonderful.

Is it all really as simple as that? Hmmmmm? I believe that it is that simple. Just imagine yourself locked up in Folsom Prison, then imagine yourself here in El Chaco. Now because of imagination, you are here in heaven. As free as a bird. Just with a tiny bit of imagination, you can do anything that you want. Go anyplace that you want.

Can a person have "Too much heaven" causing them to lose their grip on reality? I think that the answer to this question is, "Yes, they can!"

Catastrophic failure

9AM - Catastrophic failure
As rational thinking beings, most of us believe that are able to fix ourselves when we become broken. When something goes wrong, we go to a doctor, dentist, psychiatrist and get it fixed. However, sometimes things may go wildly askew. Sometimes we suffer catastrophic failure and no matter what we do, we are not able to fix what went wrong.

I am not writing this morning to tell you that something is wrong with me. Right now, although I have upper chest congestion and am taking medication for this problem, I am actually in pretty good shape for a 75 year old guy. What I am writing about is to tell you that I am taking a passive approach to my eventual catastrophic failure.

I will not rail against some future catastrophic event by running to the medical world for constant testing. When something happens to me that causes pain or discomfort, I'll get it attended to. But aside from that, I am just relaxing and enjoying.

El Chaco

9AM - Life at El Chaco
The way things are organized at El Chaco is quite amazing. The people working here maintain the property, hotel and the restaurant. The restaurant prepares food for these people for free. El Chaco owners Elena and Matias provide overall management. But otherwise, the workers direct themselves.

Elena loves plants and trees. She is constantly adding to the growing things at El Chaco. Elena also waters all of the plants herself. And the plants make El Chaco into the wonderful paradise that it is.

9:30AM - Jorge battles sickness
The congestion in my chest continues to diminish. I am sooooo happy that I went to Doctor Eladio for treatment. I still have three days of antibiotic treatment to go. I should be all better by then.

Crack molding

10AM - A crack in the molding
Yesterday morning while driving to Doctor Eladio's office, I noticed a crack in the plastic molding above MsTioga's drivers side door. As we drove over the speed bumps, this crack opened and closed. Something very wrong was going on!

You will need some background information to understand what is going on here. Back in 2003, a few months after MsTioga began journeying together, we performed a very large repair of Tioga's cabover shelf. You may read about that repair and the problems that were involved by clicking [here].

This morning after probing the area of the cabover repair job with a screwdriver, it was determined that the new cabover shelf that we installed in 2003 had come a bit loose from the original shelf. We installed a bunch of screws thru the new shelf and into the original shelf. Now the cabover shelves are fastened together properly, and the crack in the molding no longer moves.

11AM - Jorge's sickness
It may be a bit early to detect any improvement in my sickness. Today is only the second day on the antibiotic medication that we told you about yesterday.

However, it does seem to me that congestion in my throat has diminished somewhat. Also, I have not had any indication of an allergic reaction to the drug.
