Vanguard manages my retirement fund. When I go online to view my Vanguard account, I am met with the following statement:
"We project that your money is not likely to last until you reach age 100."
This statement could give me cause to be very concerned for my welfare. If I live to age 100, will I wind up being homeless? By comparison, Social Security calculates that I will live to age 88 years.
If I spend my retirement money according to Vanguard, I must reduce my spending by 1/2! No eating out at restaurants. No golf.
If I spend according to Social Security, I can do all the things that I am doing now. And the biggest thing is, that I will not have to be concerned about dying homeless and penniless!
I choose to believe the stats from Social Security.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Barney!
DeleteVery good to receive experienced advice :)

Nor will you be dating as much or staying up as late partying.
DeleteI like the logic of both of you. The older I get, the less I worry about what "might" happen. I don't deny myself very often. Am doing what I want and am able to do NOW!
ReplyDeleteI think you have the right idea. Our plan is to keep us in funds until age 95. Don't expect to last that long.
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean you're going to have to cut down to 1/2 of your pistachio nuts allotted monthly amount,,,, good Lord forbid
ReplyDeleteOr you could be like Rocky the squirrel stash them now for later when you get to 99
But with your luck your doctor will put you on a no salt diet
Hey George I've been following you since the beginning when forums were the main source of info. I wish you were going videos back then, but I guess Youtube wasn't around. I see all these YouTubers doing the same things you were doing 15 years ago-- they act like they discovered something! LOL I'm sad that you aren't out boondocking-- never paying for a spot! But I've aged with you. I still try to turn people onto you and your blogs. I think you are great and if you only live to 100 that will still be too short for fellow RV'ers like me. Take Care George and know that people think about you everyday.
ReplyDeleteHi TT,
DeleteHere is a [link] to an index of my earliest videos.
George
It's just too bad that people relay on Youtube for info--the forums are low, blogging is low--- no one wants to read anymore.
ReplyDeleteGeorge I hope you live to at least a 100. If you live longer maybe you could ask the government for a bail out or a bonus. The rich banks did and got billions.
ReplyDeleteGreat to read that you are playing golf and getting out. Enjoy it while you can. I miss your RV travels as I'm sure you do. But still lot's of life to live.
ReplyDeleteNice blog you've shared.
