7:30am - 24 Hour Fitness & Medications
This morning I'm going over to 24 Hour Fitness. I have benefitted sooooo much by going to 24 Hour regularly [every other day].
My physical condition has improved so very much. I am hardly the same person anymore! It was my cessation of using prescribed medication which led to my being able to benefit by being a 24 Hour member.
I am now:
- Stable when I walk
- Able to do common things easily. ie; Put on my shoes and pants!
- Mild twitching of my right hand and right foot is gone
- My weight at my last Kaiser visit this week was 152 lbs. BMI = 22.39
- Last September, these numbers were: 177 lbs BMI = 25.46
What happened?
I believe that one of my prescribed medications, caused a massive decline in my health. This medication is: Warfarin. Prescribed for me as a result of a minor blood clot which occurred after replacement of my aortic valve in March, 2014.
Warfarin is a blood thinner. In my case, Warfarin caused minor bleeding of my brain which led to a major upset of my physical self. In my opinion, from my research, I conclude that my continuing to take Warfarin would very likely led to my death.

Hi George...
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are functional again.
Knowing full-well your stealth camping desire, but aware too of Scampy's small holding tank capacity, and your mention of hot baths and showers when staying in hotels, may I humbly suggest considering a Passport America camping membership?
This would allow you to be stealth camping for 1-3 nights, dump tanks, get fresh water, and a good hot shower for under $18 in most cases.
Yes, it might mean hooking up the shower drain again to the holding tank or it might be the drain would exit before the tank if hooked to a sewer line (?).
After such a one night stop you would be good to go again for another 1- 3 nights (maybe more).
Looking for water and places to dump are time consuming and may be in an opposite direction of your trip.
Just a thought as the cost of Passport America is about $44 and generally provides 50% off a campgrounds posted rate. And yes, it would mean checking their directory or online for a nearby campground. And, yes, each campground lists its own days for using Passport America.
Good health and great trips. America is so beautiful and you are so fortunate to be so free to experience it.
Ernie from Michigan
Thank you for this Passport America suggestion, Ernie!

George did you have a mechanical valve installed or a tissue valve?
ReplyDeleteHi Bob,
DeleteTissue valve.

You know what you're doing by listening to your body. I don't like medications. Diet and exercise are the best cures.
ReplyDeleteHi LBM,
DeleteI agree!

Don't get me started on the discussion of medicine. I know about having reactions to drugs. There is a chad2 scale that if followed would have everyone with hypertension and over 75 on an anticoagulant or blood thinner. After all, how could those companies pay for those expensive adds? To take or not to take - that is the question. Take care of yourself George

Baby aspirin is recommended to help prevent clots. George did not mention if his blood was very thin and if he had regular tests to measure his clotting times. There are many foods that will thin the blood so perhaps George is not in need of the thinners, especially if has a tissue valve. Too little info to make too many judgements.
ReplyDeleteHi Bob,
DeleteSorry! I do not know what, "very thin" means?
Yes. The Kaiser Coumadin Clinic checked my blood regularly.

Just looked up the side effects of warfarin. Wow ! The stuff sounds like pure poison...
ReplyDeleteHi John,
DeleteYes! Apparently for me, Warfarin is poison.
If I had not stopped using prescribed Warfarin when I did, it is very likely that I would NOT be alive today!!
