Day 160
First Aid Kit
7:17am:
Yesterday, while driving in Santa Cruz, I passed a guy who had been riding his bike. He was now sprawled out at the side of the road. An accident victim.
After viewing this man, I made a decision to put my wound care experience to good use. My plan is to build a first aid kit with the many components necessary to help accident and disaster victims.
I'm going to buy the dressings, bandages, medication and other things that my research provides me is needed. I'll lean on my good friend, Pete Olson, who was a paramedic for a couple of decades, to help me [Pete's pic holding his guitar is on the upper right of my Blog].
.
Dometic door catch
I've owned several Dometic refrigerators. All of these fridges used a door stop which was supposed to keep the door closed while the RV was on-the-road.
The door stop construction consisted of a fixed steel bracket and two rotating plastic parts. This Dometic door stop included a Phillips screw which had to be loosened in order to open the fridge door. And tightened to keep the door from opening while the RV was on-the-road.
In order for me to lock and unlock Scampy's Dometic fridge door which employed this door stop, a Phillips screw driver was necessary. I stored a Phillips screw driver in Scampy's kitchen drawer!
Didn't work good!
That door stop did not work good. Sometimes our Dometic fridge door would open while we were on-the-road. And the contents of the fridge would be scattered on Scampy's floor!
Johana's solution
While Johana was visiting, we sat together inside Scampy. I mentioned that door stop to Johana. And she took a look at it, and made a suggestion.
Below are pics of Johana's suggested door stop. Which works by simply rotating the stop with my fingers! No screw driver required!

9:30 to 11:00am:
24 Hour Fitness
This has been my second 24 Hour session here in Santa Cruz. The first session was kinda spotty because I hadn't yet got used to the equipment. Also, I cut my reps down that first time because it's not comfortable to get sore muscles.
Today I exercised every muscle group. My weakest muscles are the forearms where I use 10 lb weights.
2:03pm:
Pop Quiz #3
- Where are we now?
Can you guess where we are right now?
Hint: He's a Colonel
5:45pm:
La Posta Restaurant
Johana and I have a date to meet at La Posta. An Italian restaurant of renown the City of Santa Cruz [Link].
This place prepares food quite differently than other Italian joints. For instance, our salad was laid out on the plate to appear like a work of art. Every vegetable perfectly placed. The salad's tomatoes were so sweet, juicy and crisp.
Johana and I both ordered the same dish for our main course:
Chestnut tagliatelle with braised pork, artichoke and gremolata

I use velcro strip works good!

Good morning George. I found from personal experience it was less expensive to buy my medical supplies from our medical supply store here where I live. Less expensive tan going to a pharmacy/drug store. What a kind helpful heart you have.
ReplyDeleteyes he sure has!!! Marilyn
DeleteBetty & Mj C,

Thank you both! 😎
George

Smart youngun!! So simple to solve the problem.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I keep seeing fires on the national news, and Santa Cruz is mentioned a lot. What's the scoop on that?
Hi Dee,
DeleteJohana is a really smart person!
Santa Cruz fires? There are no observable fires here. No smoke either.
George
PS: This morning I read about a big fire in the forest east of Santa Cruz!
.
I have a tri-fold EMT kit with Quick Clot. I've used it a few times. I usually wait around until the paramedics get there because they will replace what you used to stop the bleeding.
ReplyDeleteHi Joe,
DeleteI'm going to research Tri-fold EMT kit with Quick Clot.
Thank you,
George
.
I like Johana's idea and will see if I can do something similar. I hate picking the fridge contents up off the floor! similar.
ReplyDeleteHi Croft,
DeleteAfter supper yesterday, Johana took a look at how her fridge door latch idea came out.
I am sooooo proud of her!
