Lake RV

6:35 pm:
I'm in the process of negotiating with Lake RV of Ponderay Idaho to make several changes to Scampy. Tomorrow I will be talking to Orville and Sharon Bayless, the owners of Lake RV.

After talking about what is to be done, I will be able to post here in my Blog about the details.

Stay tuned........!

6:48 pm:
Whirlpool Electric Refrigerator
For the past few days, we have been testing a very low wattage refrigerator. It is a Whirlpool brand fridge Model #WH31S1E.

The Whirlpool operates on 120 volts AC and draws 0.8 amps. This means that this refrigerator operates at 96 watts.

We have been powering the Whirlpool off of our Yingli 250 watt solar panel and the Whirlpool has performed splendidly!

Just now we checked the temperature of the refrigerator and it is 44℉ with the cooling knob set at #5. There are 7 graduations on the knob which means that the fridge cabinet could come down in temperature a few degrees.

The freezer has a temperature of 7℉. I sense ice cubes in our future.

Here is the Whirlpool's temporary location
in Señor Tránsito's rear storage area.

In order to send 120 volt AC electric power to the Whirlpool, an extension cord ran from our 2000 watt inverter located in Scampy's large cabinet to the Whirlpool inside Tránsito.

We purchased the Whirlpool from Target [Link]. We paid $129.99 for the Whirlpool.

  1. Looks good George. Maybe should move to front of Transito. Help Transito to put more weight on the front wheels. By the way, I sold my 83 Winnie, ending a 30 year participant in RV ing. But I’ll always carry on, vicariously, in your adventures and my memories.

    1. Hi Bill,

The new Whirlpool is only temporarily staying inside Señor Tránsito's rear storage area.

The plan is to remove the Dometic absorption type refrigerator now located in Scampy's kitchen. The Whirlpool electric refrigerator will be installed in the same spot that the Dometic occupies now.

Bill, you have to be more than a bit nostalgic about selling your
'83 Winnie! I myself have strong feelings imagining what you went thru in order to make that sell decision!

  2. Don’t use much anymore and between storage fees and constant maintenance and repairs it just became a money pit.

  3. Will you encounter cooling problems with the new electric refrigerator when you have a string of sunless days and the solar power is vastly diminished?

    1. Hi Peter,

Yes! I will encounter cooling problems as you rightly commented.

The same thought occurred to me just this morning. I am going to address this in today's Blog.

  4. That sounds like a good idea on the refrigerator if you have them install the refrigerator leave at least 3/4 of an inch all the way around the refrigerator that way you could take and insert foam panels as added insulation I hope the efficiency of the refrigerator just don't block the back off where it needs air.
When we install them on the boat we use canned soft type foam to fill the void.
After doing that, once installed the foam secures the refrigerator it's not going anywhere.
You can also use that soft foam to secure your water tank
If you spray the foam in a plastic trash bag let it expand The bag makes it easier to remove it at a later date if you need to.

    1. Hi Ed,

This morning I took a 2nd look at replacing our Dometic propane fridge with the Whirlpool electric fridge.

The Whirlpool lost. The Dometic remains.

    1. Hi Joan,

One thing that you will learn about me if you follow my Blog for a long time, is that I rethink stuff a lot.

I am now rethinking how to successfully accomplish the addition of the Whirlpool refrigerator using high capacity lithium-ion batteries.
