Kaiser Medical

8:51 am:
In yesterday's 3:25 pm Blog post, I published a pic of several recently noticed growths. Reader SuperDave commented, "I had a melanoma removed recently, George. It did look similar to your spots."

Dave encouraged me to have these growths removed quickly. I am going to Kaiser Medical this morning.

6:26 am:
Yesterday evening, Rowena and I went out for supper at Maria Bonita Mexican Restaurant in Beaverton Oregon. Afterward, we returned to Rowena's apartment. That was when I met Anzu, a green cheek conure!

Kawena [kahˈ-vee-nah], Rowena's 14-year old daughter gave the bird the name of Anzu which is a girl's name meaning "apricot" in Japanese.

After Anzu gave my outstretched finger a few soft bites, she warmed up to me!

Anzu is sooooo friendly.

New Grey Water Tank

8:30 am:
Yesterday, the leak from Scampy's grey water tank returned. This means that a new grey water tank must be ordered. I've ordered that tank from Scamp
Trailer [Link].

The tank is being shipped to Curtis Trailers located in Beaverton Oregon. Curtis Trailers is also going to raise Scampy up to have a ground clearance of 3" more than now.

Beaverton Oregon

7:38 am:
The City of Beaverton is, in my opinion, a wonderful place for me to RV during the summer months from late May thru September.

It's easy to fill my fresh water tank at a local Chevron station. There is a dump station at Beaverton's Sunset Mini Storage. Beaverton has a kinda small town feel. I like that.

The lovely Fountain City Park makes an excellent Day Camp! You may recall that I got arrested at that park by an overzealous city cop. But that arrest led to my being kicked off the Jojoba RV Park's wait list. If I had not been kicked off, I would likely not be living the fabulous RV life that I am now!

Isn't it interesting to contemplate that when bad things happen to me, those bad things mostly end up being the very things that bring happiness and joy to my life!

7:33 am:
Do you remember Rowena? The first time that I Blogged about Rowena was on February 17, 2009 [Link]. When I first met Rowena, everybody called her by the nickname, Weng.

Since that time in 2009, Rowena and I have become close friends.

Today The Scampy Team will reach Beaverton Oregon. Beaverton is the place that Rowena calls home.

Señor Tránsito Is Feeling Low

4:01 am:
Everybody on the Scampy Team is concerned about Tránsito getting stalled out while towing Scampy.

Tránsito has lost traction! Several times over the past few days, Tránsito has completely stopped. Right in the middle of a road!! His front drive wheels just spun. No forward motion!

Tránsito has never had good traction.  But since the rain began, several times the Scampy Team has been put in peril for its very life! Most of these "lost traction" events occurred on hilly roads during rain.

Just yesterday, George had to steer sideways across the road to move forward. It was terrifying! George gave Tránsito the smallest amount of gas possible, and Tránsito began to move forward ever so slowly. When we reached the crest of the hill, Tránsito was OK.

This evening, Tránsito lost traction right in the middle of an intersection. And that place was flat! This traction loss always has happened during rain.

No Leak!

7:42 am:
Water was just run down Scampy's kitchen drain. Excitedly, George went outside to take a look at the grey water tank. Is it leaking? Is the leak fixed?

It's fixed! Yaaayyyy!

The Leak

9:45 am:
With Mister Ed's help, I believe that I have learned how to stop the leak coming from Scampy's gray water tank.

Yesterday I attempted to repair that leak by using ABS cement to re-connect the dump valve assembly to the gray water tank. The result was that the leak returned!

Today I am going to connect the dump valve assembly using a hub coupler. This should permanently fix this leak problem!

Hangfire Job

7:50 am:
A week or so back, the dump tube connection to Scampy's grey water tank began leaking. George took a look and did not immediately comprehend the procedure to repair this leak. George has been thinking about it ever since.

Do you believe that the passage of time, as it always does, brings the answers to all problems? We do!

1. Jack up Scampy's left wheel.
2. Remove the dump tube that connects to the grey water tank. At the other end of this tube is the grey water dump valve.
3. Inspect both the grey water tank's outlet fitting and the mating end of the dump tube.

The red Here is where the leak is located.

Señor Tránsito

10:10 am:
Tránsito has just been driven inside the Meineke shop where it will be determined what happened to his air-conditioner.

Also, why the front left turn lamp does not work.

8:00 am:
I've been invited to breakfast by Reader Brian. It's rare that I accept an invitation like this. However, in the few emails that I received from Brian, he came across to me as being such a swell fellow! So, I accepted his invitation.

We met at the Village Square Cafe in the City of Redmond Washington. And, would you believe that we talked together for over 3-hours! Both inside the Cafe and also, inside Scampy. Brian and I have a whole lot in common.

Wimping Out!

8:21 am:
There was a moment for me, immediately after my collision accident of yesterday afternoon, when I said asked myself:
"Maybe you are getting too old for this, George? Maybe you should find a senior apartment for yourself and spend your days watching TV?"

Then, I got a grip on this situation:
➜ I am not Wimping Out!
➜ I am not going to let doubts creep into my life because of the coincidences of these two accidents happening to me in the same day.

After the Accident

3:06 pm:
The event of running-off-road this morning was sooooo traumatic for me, that I was not able to fall asleep until 5:30 am! And I did not get up out of bed, until 12:30 pm!!

That running-off-the-road accident needs some closure. So, although this Blog post that you are reading now happened on the same day as that accident [September 17th, 2018], we have begun a new Blog post.
Both dated September 17, 2018.

Ran Off The Roadway!

1:20 am:
While attempting to turn around, I put Señor Tránsito partially in a ditch! He is stuck but good!

The Highway Patrol is here to help me.

I have not been able to get a towing company to come out here. I talked on the phone to three towing companies. But they would not come to tow me out!

The ditch that grabbed The Scampy Team is located [Here].

Pax by Sara Pennypacker

6:10 am:
Yesterday evening, I downloaded a book from Google Play. The book is titled:
"Pax" by Sara Pennypacker.

I first saw this book when I went to a library in a small town. I don't remember the name of that town or where it is located. But I am still able to see that library in my mind's eye.

Something about that book, sitting as it did on the top of a short library bookcase, caught my eye. I jotted an entry in my tiny notebook. And this evening I went searching for "Pax."

A Hot Shower

8:17 am:
I'm able to keep clean taking Navy Showers. However, a regular hot shower is a delightful, fantastic, fabulous thing. Especially because I have not had a regular hot shower for several weeks!

Yesterday I had a challenge locating a place for my Nite Camp. This does not happen often. However, from time to time it does happen.

So, I checked into Howard Miller Steelhead RV Park located in the Town of Rockport, Washington. A no-hookup dry campsite cost $12. Included in that price are restroom privileges. And the restroom has a pay-shower!

8:45 am:
Very late yesterday evening, I found that I had a craving for chocolate chip cookies! Could that craving have come because just the other day I bought
Nestlé Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie dough at the grocery?

So, at around 11:45 pm, I found myself removing all my bedding from Big Cabinet to retrieve the Coleman Camp Oven that is stored in there.

Cooking is one of my favorite things. And cooking in Scampy's kitchen is especially fantastic for me. Because I am able to do it way out here at my Nite Camp. Weird huh?

7:16 am:
I made my first Blog post on May 14th, 2003 [Link].  From that day on I enjoyed giving human characteristics to the things that traveled with me.

MsTioga was my first traveling friend. And she had powerful communication skills! MsTioga was destroyed when I had that big accident on March 15th, 2014 [Link]. She was towed away from the site of that accident and remained in the yard of that towing company for over two years.

However, strange and as impossible as it may seem, MsTioga reached out to me shortly before she was to be reduced to scrap. For no particular reason, I happened to use Google Earth to look at the site of my accident in the City of Bakersfield.

When thru Google Earth, I also looked down at the towing company, I saw MsTioga! There she was among other towed away RVs. The solar panels on MsTioga's roof identified her.

I phoned the towing company to find out about MsTioga. They told me that she had been scrapped out only a few days before! I believe that MsTioga wanted to say goodbye to me. And she used Google Earth to do it!

The red arrow points at MsTioga.

Today Is The Day!

6:09 am:
Boid's cage is hanging from a branch in a small tree located within a few feet of the location where Boid flew out of his of his cage last Thursday morning. I had to use the ladder because I was not able to reach that branch while standing on the ground.

As I was attaching the bungee cord to the branch, it occurred to me that Boid could be looking at me from his sleeping place in this same tree!

Waiting for Boid.

Tree The Cage

5:52 am:
Reader Sue Commented: "Hang Boid's Cage In A Tree."

Yesterday afternoon, Reader Sue's comment got us to suspend Boid's cage from the limb of a small tree.

That's what we wish to do this morning. But first, we used our ladder to get Boid's cage off the ground. It seems that Boid was not interested in flying to his cage during the four days after he escaped when the cage was on the ground.

So, we are going to put Boid's cage in a tree. But first, we got the cage off the ground using a ladder.

Sunday Morning

5:45 am:
Boid's been on his own for 3-days. Since mid-morning last Thursday.

It was still dark when Scampy and The Team arrived. Sunrise comes at 6:24am today. We put Boid's cage on the same table as yesterday. And lit up the cage with several Nero lights.

Inside the cage, we placed Little iPhone playing parakeets tweeting.

6:24 am:
As the day began, I walked the park where Boid was last seen. I listened for his song.

Where are you Boid?

Little Boid Come Home

5:28 am:
I am going to Osoyoos Park while it is still dark. Perhaps Boid will see me easier?

When the day gets brighter, perhaps Boid will fly down to his cage for his seeds?

6:11 am:
Waiting For Boid
I am playing the rock n roll music that Boid loves.

And are shining lights on Boid's cage.

George vs Apple

8:12 am:
My position concerning my iPhone 7's bad microphone is that Apple sold me a defective product. All I want is an iPhone that is not defective.

If that means exchanging my present defective phone for an Apple-supplied phone, so-be-it!

Apple's position is that because I had my broken iPhone screen replaced by
a shop that was not approved by Apple that my iPhone can no longer be repaired.

Since the bad microphone preceded the screen replacement, Apple's position does not hold water,

I have been in daily communication with Apple support since September 4th.

To be continued .......

The Willey's - Revisited

7:36 am:
I first met Steve and Elizabeth Willey in 2004. I camped at their home again in 2005.

Steve and Elizabeth are the most unassuming couple! And yet they have accomplished so much!

I am Blogging about them again this morning in order to give you a better perspective of their what they have accomplished!

Apple Store

9:31 am:
When we talk on Little iPhone, the people we talk to report that they have trouble hearing what we say. Apparently, there is an issue with some iPhone 7s having bad microphones.

We have an appointment at the Apple Store in Spokane Washington at 12:40 pm today to have that microphone issue corrected.

Steve & Elizabeth Willey

9:58 am:
We are heading north for a visit with our friends, Steve and Elizabeth Willey. Their home is in the forest not far from the International Border of Canada.

Steve and Elizabeth started Backwoods Solar Electric in 1978 as a home-based business, after successfully pioneering the use of photovoltaics for their own mountain home, two miles from utility lines. They happily helped their neighbors get solar panels for homes that needed off-grid power and wanted to help others too.

Both home and business were 100% powered by the time-tested equipment described in the catalog: 85% by the sun, with wind and a backup generator covering the balance in snowy winter months.

In 2004, Steve and Elizabeth retired, and they sold the business. Backwoods Solar moved out of their home to a facility just a couple of miles down the road.

Free Electric Power

9:02 am:
Some Readers have suggested that an RV may be powered electrically on only 12-volts DC. We on the Scampy team believe that this 12-volt only idea is an admirable idea.

However, is it a fun idea? Especially for the Scampy team who are a bunch of project loving geeks?

On the Scampy team, we have:
➜ Yingli the 250-watt solar panel who delivers free power from the sun.
➜ Mr. Renogy our battery charge controller who keeps our battery charged automatically.
➜ Duracell our deep cycle battery who now lives in the completely re-designed Big Cabinet.
➜ Jupiter the 2000-watt inverter who came to The Team from Harbor Freight.
➜ Coleman the Camp Oven who recently baked up a batch of chocolate chip cookies.
➜ Little CyberPower, the 120-volt AC outlet who is now conveniently mounted under Scampy's rear window.

The Scampy Team's perspective of a wonderful life is to provide ourselves with the most comfortable and exciting environment possible.

Tell us, Dear Reader, how are we doing?

Almost Done!

8:16 am:
Big Cabinet's shelf is now sooooo close to being done! All that remains to do is to block in the forward part of the shelf to Big Cabinet's forward wall.

And, tie down the shelf's four feet with screws that go thru the PVC tube and into the four wood blocks!
