Empty Cage

6:24 am:
As the day began, I walked the park where Boid was last seen. I listened for his song.

Where are you Boid?

7:35 am:
Sounds of Budgies
As I walked the park, I played the sounds of budgies singing on my iPhone. Perhaps Boid might be attracted to the chirping sound?

I hoped that Boid would fly to me. Many years ago a lost parakeet actually landed on my shoulder. I prayed that Boid would land on my shoulder.

It's a big park. With so many trees!

9:47 am:
Keeping Eye On Cage
The Scampy Team backed into a parking space just behind Boid's cage in the park.

When Boid returns to his cage, we want to be close!

Any moment, Boid will return!

Boid Arrives!
Baby Boid came to live with me on this date in 2016. Boid was about 3 to 4 months old when I found him at a Petco store in Apple Valley California.

We had been together for 2-years, 19-days on the September 6th morning that he flew away.

I feel that I am in a state of shock because of Boid flying away.

2:34 pm:
Lunch With Kevin and Ruth
Yesterday, the three of us made plans to eat lunch together at Trino's Mexican Restaurant here in the Town of Oroville. Nice place! Nice food too! Except for my chili relleno which was promised: "No Picante!" [Not hot]. It was hot!

We had a good time talking Spanish with the restaurant's people who understood hardly any English.

The Scampy Team has returned to Osoyoos Park and made an Afternoon Camp in the same spot as this morning. Boid's empty cage remains empty.

Kevin took this pic of Boid yesterday.
About an hour before Boid flew away.

3:42 pm:
Favorite Woolen Shirt
I've worn my favorite woolen shirt for over 20-years. I'm very easy on my clothing and footwear.

A hole developed in the left sleeve near the elbow. There is a small iron onboard. And iron-on patches too.

Before patching.

Doing the patching.

After patching.

4:51 pm:
Honda Got To Go!
Our Honda Eu1000i Portable Inverter Generator — 1,000 Surge Watts, 900 Rated Watts overloaded this afternoon with the 800-watt iron load.

I've had it with Honda generators. Overpriced! Specs don't match their real-world
claims as far as watts is concerned!

Granted, 1000 watts is too little power for the Scampy Team's needs. But there are competitor's generators out in the market, that do a quality job at a huge discount to Honda.

In serious consideration is: WEN 56200i Super Quiet 2000-Watt Portable Inverter Generator [Link]

7 pm:
55-Hours Since Boid Flew Away!
He has had to find food in that amount time. Because if Boid has not found food by now, he is no more!

This means that if Boid is ever going to return to his cage/home, it will not be because of the distress of starvation.

It seems to me that a larger bird might last 55-hours without food. But not a tiny bird weighing 1.2 ounces!

Nevertheless, I am going to remain at Osoyoos Lake Park. Because who can tell what miracle might have saved Baby Boid?

I will arrive here before Sunrise [6:24 am] and leave after
Sunset [7:23 pm].

"Good nite my sweet Baby Boid. See you again tomorrow!"

  1. George ask the park official to help locate Boid. I'm sure they can help with locating and bringing Boid home. If not just let the park know Boid is in the park somewhere. Perhaps Boid will be found later. You can also purchase a cheap binoculars that will better locate Boid.

    1. Hi Rita,

I've left the park office my name and phone number.

Binoculars are not the way to locate Boid. Kevin and Ruth located Boid twice by first listening for his song. After hearing Boid sing, finding him visually is possible.

  2. I know you won't give up until you're sure that Boid is gone for good. And I know you want what's best for Boid, even if that means flying free.

    1. Hi Bob,

This is a tough time for me. I lived with Boid for over 2-years. He is part of my life now. And that part is missing!

I am not sure if I agree completely with your comment, Bob.
      1. I do not feel that what's best for Boid is flying free. Boid flying free is a tragedy waiting to happen.
      2. If Boid does not come back to me, I shall never know what happened to him. In that case, when I give up and leave Oroville, I will not know if Boid is gone for good.

For example, Boid could show up at the park a minute, a day, a week after I leave.

I have notified the park office about Boid. And left my name and phone number.

  3. You love Boid, it must be heart wrenching not knowing where he is, if he's okay, if you'll ever see him again, or what happened to him. I am still praying for his well being, whether that is with you, some other people or with our Creator. Should he remain lost from your care may you take comfort in the knowledge that you were wonderful to him while he was yours-N

    1. Hi N,

Heart wrenching! Yes, this experience certainly is that for me.

I have turned Boid's cage around so that my view looks down his perch. Before turning the cage, every timeI I looked there it seemed like Boid was inside!!

  8. George, I had a 2000 Honda, and it worked fine for my boat, but I agree it is a little pricey. Here is an equivalent from Harbor Freight. Don't know anything about them, but the price is much better.
