Cutting Pass-Thru

11:33 am:
In the pic below, I've marked the location that was transferred from laying out the pass-thru on the back wall of the cab. The pass-thru will be 24" wide x 45" high.

The layout of the pass-thru.

6:10 pm:
Half Passed Thru
When we first began sawing out the pass thru opening this morning, we tried a hand held circular saw. That circular saw was too unwieldy. Then we tried a saber saw. That was too slow!

During the afternoon, Box Van drove us to a tool rental joint where we rented an impressive Makita saber saw. That Makita roared thru cutting out the opening!

It's quitting time now. Tomorrow is another day!

Half Passed Thru!

  1. Hi, George,

I'm having fun reading about you having fun with your box van project.

The opening is 45" tall which means you must stoop to get through it. Taking steps while stooping can throw off balance. Handles or grab bar on both sides might be a good assist and safety feature to consider.

That's all I got as far as contributing ideas. Ha!

    Best wishes,
    Sue

  2. Do Not make any cuts for a pass-through or install any propane tanks until after you get your liability insurance if for any reason they need to inspect it. you won't pass and they won't give it to you. It's considered a structural modification
If it's just a rider cut to your hearts content

Yes, I have plans. However, I have done no research yet.

What do you have in mind?

  4. "When we first began sawing ...". You said "we." Do you have someone who is helping you with the sawing?

    1. Lou,

Wow! Your comment is a real coincidence!

Just yesterday I ordered a composting toilet.

  7. I'd think strongly about 2 part spray foam for insulation also.
