I am definitely not in a rush to complete my Box Van construction. However, even I am beginning to wonder: "Why is it going sooooo slowly?"
I believe the answer is in all the other things that are going on at the same time!
For example, a few days ago I received a credit card charge for something that I did not buy. In discussing the matter with my credit card company, they suggested canceling the card number and issuing a new number, which was done.
About the same time, my bank's debit card began not functioning at check-out. So, my bank sent me a new debit card. But not having a debit card left me without a source of $cash$. No problem, I have a 3rd card.
But that 3rd card had only a $1,000 credit-line. Putting all my purchases on that one card quickly hit that $1,000 limit. So, I had the limit raised to $2,000.
Now, here is the thing about all of these details that began above with, "For example" [Above]. Each thing required some time. Adding all of the hundreds of things all together takes away from construction time.
And some days, there is not one minute left for construction! [Like yesterday!]
3:32 am:
I'm considering using R-Tech Insulating Sheathing [Link].
R-Tech seems to me to be an easy product to install. I like the look of it!
4:05 am:
I have been considering a fixed workbench that would be attached to one of Box Van's walls.
However, over the past few days as I was sawing up and assembling drawer parts, it became clear that a fixed workbench would not cut it! My workbench had to be in the middle of my workshop where there would be room to walk around it!
Recently I had spotted a DeWalt portable bench at Home Depot and did not pay much attention to it. But now I had a need for a portable workbench. And went to Home Depot especially to see it!
Wow! Great piece of equipment! I bought one and just opened it up a few minutes ago! [Link]
DeWalt Express portable workbench.
10:25 am:
I want to put electric jacks on Box Van so that the front may be leveled out. In order to know what the capacity of those jacks must be, I need to have Box Van weighed.
I've just returned from a truck scale place:
➜ The front axle weighs 3,620 lbs.
➜ The rear axle weighs 5,920 lbs
The jacks that I am considering are:
Buyers Products 12-Volt Electric Jack - 22-1/2" Travel - 3,500 lbs [Link]
3:20 pm:
For a couple of hours, I've been assembling 4" high drawers. My design calls for 3", 4" and 5" drawers. But an engineering change now calls out all 4" drawers with (1) 12 " drawer.
In the pic below, there (6) 4" drawers completed! Wow! Maybe the Box Van project will not take a year as Mister Ed predicted!

Isn't it amazing how fast your mind Eye can build something
ReplyDeleteBut reality comes down to how slow your Brain an hands are
At the rate that you're going you're looking at a year worth of work
Ed,
DeleteWhoa! Maybe a year at the rate that I have been going.
Not at the rate of speed that I WILL going soon!

The R-Tech looks perfect for your project !
ReplyDeleteJohn,
DeleteThank you sooooo much!

Keep a close eye on the credit card charges as when I went thru a similar situation and after receiving a new card number I was still fraudulently charged by the same vendor. I was told that some vendors can follow you ( in this case it was APPLE ) several phone calls later it was all resolved. Good Luck
ReplyDeleteBill,
DeleteThank you for this advice! 😎
George
.
Bill B.
Deleteif the vendor used your old number and you've changed to a new number the vendor does NOT have access to it
Which means he can't charge to the new number unless you gave it to him .
Your account an pin remains the same but your credit card number is new
The only exception is if the bank screwed up and didn't delete your old credit card number.
Therefore the bank is liable.
That was the whole reason why the bank issued you a new card
Ed,
DeleteYou are correct!
As a matter of fact, you are usually correct! That's why we all love you! 😍
Especially me! I am a Mister Ed fan!

I remember you saying you had issues with logging into your accounts a few weeks ago. Sounds like maybe you had some ID compromise.
DeleteIt might be worth it to call all your other financial institutions and change cards. Even if you are not having trouble with them.
Might also want to go to your financial accounts on the web and change passwords on those.
I know it is a pain, but much easier than having to start over with a full Identity theft.
Unknown,
DeleteMaybe to you what you describe is an ID compromise. But not to the several firms that monitor my online Presence!!
By their standards and expertise, how do you measure up?
➜ Identity Guard
➜ Turbo Tax
➜ Alaska USA

Isn’t that Jack for a trailer tongue?

Bill,
DeleteThat jack does not care what it's load is.

At some point you have to stop shopping and start building, lol.
ReplyDeleteOh my, Squire,
DeleteA little humor there?
Have you read my 3:20 pm post?
George

Yep it'll be a year you had your box van a month
ReplyDeleteLet's see you Cut ✂️ big hole 🔍in the van and the truck🤞put in a gas tank you plumb the line you put in a heater you fell out of bed and you're sleeping on the floor you've made one drawer as seen in photo I think you put in a compost toilet 🚽 but that status Is unknown (thank goodness for shopping bags)
So the way I look at it you're gallivanting around with beautiful women see your photo,,, you're probably on a first name basis with the wait staff With a seniors💵 discount 🥞🍖🍗at denny's
Never mind the fact you spent so much time in the 💈beauty parlor😍 💅🏽 trying to keep up with Lady Gaga 💇new hair coloring. That was Gaga Gaga right?
As well as Spent so much time at 5️⃣2️⃣ hour fitness center pumping iron 💪🏼💪🏼so you can get to look like George Reeves ...📘
But the problem there is you spent so much time in the Jacuzzi sauna steam whirlpool tub. you shrink back to your normal size keep it up you're gonna look like a 🥜California raisin
So yeah I give you a year 📍
Ed,
DeleteYes! A lot of things happened.
Did I quit? Did I let stuff that happened discourage me?
No! I did not get discouraged. In truth, I became more excited about being an RVer with Box Van!!
I absolutely love doing this kind of work. And, I love sharing this wonderful project with all of you!
George

Whoops,,,,,,,, Please add three more drawers to my comment
ReplyDeleteMaybe we will change that year to 11 months instead
Oh! Mister Ed and others!
DeleteYe of little faith!
Your words will come back on you. And will you then admit that were all wrong?
Nahhhh! Never happen.
George
.
Secretly,, I have all the faith in the world that you'll get it done,,
DeleteBut,,,, here's the thing, the day you stepped back and you say it's completely done,,,,,,,,,,, but
Squire,,, an I,,, like to antagonize you
Think of us as your motivational cheerleaders🤡🤠
One year is nothing. You have many, many more. Besides, getting there is half the fun! Once you're done do you believe you'll sit on your laurels? Of course not, you'll find another exciting project.
ReplyDeleteLBM,
DeleteOne year to do a construction job as I am doing to Box Van is huge.
Box Van will be complete before I head north again late next May! Mark my words.

Hi George...
ReplyDeleteStill sleeping on the floor? Not sure why. Why not build a frame for a bed with storage underneath taking into account in the plans for your raised floor? Just a thought. Btw, those drawers look like a "finished carpenter" built them...really good looking.
Ernie,
DeleteWhat's wrong with sleeping on my mattress which is lying on the floor?
George

Electric jacks will blow your stealth cover. Check with an offroad vehicle shop to lift your front suspension like they do with baja trucks.
ReplyDeleteRick,
DeleteWould your recommendation lift Box Van's suspension permanently? No up-an-down?
George
.
George- Your money problems are over. I happen to have shares in the Beefstake Mine that I can let you have for 10 cents a share. Five with get you ten, ten will get you twenty. I'll meet you at the bank in the morning. Tom
ReplyDeleteTom,
DeleteI bet everybody has a mining stock at one time in their investing experience.
Yuba Consolidated Gold Fields was my stock.
