Kitchen Progress

11:25 am:
Very often I have to think about a construction item for what seems to be a very long time before figuring the thing out! The kitchen counter with cabinets is one of those items.

I've been consulting with the cabinet lady at Home Depot about my kitchen's layout. I told her that I would likely need a 6-foot long laminate counter with
3-cabinets.

However, the counter which I want to buy today will be 4-feet long and I will be cutting it down to fit. And, I will be getting only one cabinet for the little bar sink.

The sink cabinet will be installed here.

12:05 pm:
Finishing the pass-thru from the Ford to Box Van is now on the agenda.

Yesterday I bought maple boards for the frame. But when I returned to Box
Van, it became clear that I needed 3-more maple boards that are a bit wider.

The pass-thru.

12:13 pm:
I am using 3/8" PEX tubing for conduit for the electric circuits. I tried running wires without conduit. That is not doable!

Yesterday from West Marine I ordered a 6-circuit DC electrical panel. Likely, only 4-circuits are necessary. However, in a case like this, having two unused but available circuits seemed like a good idea.

6-circuit panel.

1:55 pm:
Today I treated myself to lunch at China Super Buffet in La Mesa. I am wild about their pork chops which are marinated in an unbelievably delicious sauce!

Just look at my plate! Man-O-Man!

1:43 am:
Hey! It's tomorrow and I am still Blogging on December 14th! What the hell. Something different! I have a feeling that tomorrow may show up sometime soon! But if it doesn't, we are all in for a very dark Saturday!

But.....how could we have NO SUN on Sunday?!

    These 2 sentences seem contradictory:

I told her that I would likely need a 6-foot long laminate counter with 3-cabinets. However, the counter which I want to buy today will be 4-feet long and I will be cutting it down to fit.

Did you mean you're buying an 8' counter and cutting it down to 6' ?

    1. Joe,

No, I have already bought a 4-foot long counter. And this 4-foot long counter fits perfectly.

The only cutting for that counter will be for the sink hole.

  2. Lowe's and Home Depot have pre-made to length counter tops
If you By you will have to cut it yourself if you cut it cut it from the bottom side just make sure you Brace it before you cut near the backsplash

    1. Ed,

When I was an apprentice cabinetmaker [1995-2000], I made 100s of counters.

The hole that I will cut in my counter for the little bar sink will be several inches away from the backsplash.

Then y Buy one off the shelf counters
If you spent five years as an apprentice cabinet maker why waste that talent
isn't it more exciting to build from your own hands from scratch?

    3. Ed,

Yes, I wanted to build my counter myself.

However, Home Depot's already made counters have a rounded inside corner backsplash. Much nicer than a 90° corner backsplash that I would build.

And, I really liked the already made counter color and pattern.
